Disgust over Disney movie "Diary of Wimpy Kid" Dog Days
This movie came out this past Aug.

I picked up my little cousin age 10 to go to church with me, afterwards she came to my house to hang out for a while. She went to the store to pick up some things with my son and I told them get Beverly hills Chihuahua 3 please, so I can watch it with her. They were all out of the movie rental (Redbox), so she rented Dogs Days 4th n series of Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

This movie at first was kind of funny quirky cute, until they got to the certain parts that rang a red alert bell to what is occurring. The subliminal messages that certain things are okay.

The boy (7th grade) is at public city pool, and his father takes him into the Men's locker room. They show over weight older men half dressed with their cracks showing and bending over, but when the boy first walks in, an older man pats the boy on the shoulder and the boy shrugs and makes a look, as if the man is weird. (it looked like the old man tried to hit on him by touching him on the shoulder).

Then, his little brother age 3 is running around in the locker room amidst all these men and his father says, go catch him! So, he's chasing his brother all over and the little boy runs into the shower, where man older men are naked and showering, they only show the upper half naked, butttttttttttt here's a big butt - there's a shelf by one of the men, and they show he has a banana is sitting on ledge. I'm think No way!!
What the heck ?

Then the last part I caught that I very uneasy about was when the boy agreed to go on a vacation with his best friend. They all played a game called " Why I love you" . They spin a spinner and each takes a turn. The friend's mom spins and it lands on her son and she says a reason why she loves him. Then it's her son's turn and he does the same but it landed on what he had to say about his mom.
So next, it is the boy's turn and it lands on something he had to say "Why I love you" to his friend's father. He sits there very uncomfortable and uneasy, then says ' your mustache".

Call me crazy, but this movie's subliminal message was very pro pheodphile.

Oh, I checked IMDB on the parental guidance and all three of those parts were not mentioned at all. I think I need to be a paying member to add to that listing.

Golly...

I hate to say this, but I think it's your own mind making innocent things dirty. Why are you focused on that kind of thing so much that you see it that way? Were you abused as a child? (That isn't a sarcastic question. Some people that have a history of such things can be over sensitive about the subject matter. If so, chances are you're seeing things that no one else really would.)

You know what? No, I was never not all abused as a child. In fact, I was enjoying this movie, until those scenes came up. Watch it yourself and make your own judgements whether this is ok or not. I raised 4 children and always was aware of what they watched. Never ever did I have to deal with anything like this.

Perhaps I should screen every show my kids are watching even it says it is appropriate. Geez, I haven't even seen the movie, and it creeps me out!

I don't have access to movies here (deep in the country, before anyone asks I have satellite for computer service, but no phone... I'm that far out.)but it would be interesting to see what someone else has to say, if you don't have a preexisting bias that might make it a wild goose chase. Has anyone seen this thing?

I always look in the IMDB movie - area on where it says Parent's guide - there's a section for sex and nudity gore and violence etc.

I've always used this guide.

They do say that the older men are in the locker room revealing
upper buttocks and buttock cleavage of older men while sitting on the benches

There used to be nothing sexual about a bunch of naked men in a change room.

Did you ever stop to think that perhaps that scene was a comment on today's societal awkwardness, in this age of predators? There was a time where a bunch of males could be naked in a change room, and it didn't matter because it was not sexual. Now everyone suspects each other, and you can't make a friendly innocent gesture towards a younger male without setting off pedo alarms.

Same with the "love game" scene. I think it summed up the difficulty of males using words like "love" in this modern day where everything must be scanned for sexuality.

I believe the movie was simply pointing out a very real part of the modern-day human experience: sexual awkwardness in an age of paranoia.

Kids need to know that sexually awkward situations happen, it's normal, and it's been made more common by too much sex in our media.

As for the banana, you'd have to be an adult to get the joke. Most children's entertainment sneaks in adult jokes that only the parents watching will get. Go look at any cartoon ever made (except veggie tales).

Just because the movie acknowledges sexual awkwardness in the age of pedophiles, does not mean they are condoning pedophilia.

You need to look at this beyond the surface, or not at all.

And nobody's going to Hell for seeing "ass cleavage". I'm pretty sure that isn't even a thing among well-adjusted people.

I have seen some pictures of cartoons that had sexual parts drawn in the scenes. One of Disney's artists was a known pedophile and had been in prison before Disney hired him

Animators from all genres often insert little crude drawings as easter eggs. They do it to amuse themselves, and every major production cartoon in history has had this done.

So what does that have to do with anything? A random animator hastily scrawling a crudely-drawn penis in a single frame of a billion-frame animated feature will not screw up your kid. If you and your kid are well-adjusted, the sight of a drawn penis shouldn't do anything at all.

May have been appropriate 20 years ago but this day and age pedos are lurking in every corner. You cant even let your little boy in Walmarts bathroom alone anymore. I hope you watch your children and are not all trusting to strange men.

Actually, pedophilia is more or less as common as it was 20 years ago, and 50, and 100.

The only difference is today society shines a bigger spotlight on it.

I hope you also don't assume all men are out to rape your children, because if you act that way you will definitely screw up your kid.

And I maintain that the movie was making a comment on modern society and how we react to things, not advocating a practice.

Mature, well-adjusted people can look at a penis without having a meltdown.

I don't advocate purposely showing it to children, but nor am I silly enough to think the sight of a drawn penis is enough to screw someone up.

Half of people have penises, right there, just swingin' from their crotches. Grow the hell up.

Bullshit. Just because you didn't know about any pedophilia going on, doesn't mean it wasn't happening.

And I didn't say drawing cocks in cartoons was "okay", lady, what I said was it cannot do psychological damage to your children.

Sexual context towards a child is disgusting. The human body, per se, is not. Please do not teach your male children that their penises are dirty or shameful. That will give them issues.

MY POINT IS, as a society, we need to root out pedophilia without letting paranoia make us do stupid things. Like freaking out every time we see a penis somewhere.
