First Middle Last User ID: 24395285 United States 01/21/2013 12:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So is there a concern that the sinkhole and its corresponding gas beneath will explode or collapse? Quoting: Carpet Gnome If the folks living around the area are not safe, I'm all for using tax money to buy their land and get them the heck out of there. Using Standard Oil money was a much better idea. But then Huey didn’t get offed for nothin’. The term derives from the Ancient Greek words, meta, meaning beyond or after, and noia, meaning perception or understanding or mind. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 16213681 United States 01/21/2013 12:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Jindal's JOB is to find the money and EARN his endless welfare check. 5 months 3 weeks and counting means he intends to do nothing. Completely absurd. This spreading sinkhole has really simple symptoms of dissolving salt and simple eroded mud steadily collapsing in on itself taking more land around it. Why is that hard to comprehend? Any pipes beneath just a twisted mess releasing more gas. |

Quoting: psyoptics there is a huge amount of methane-hydrate under the northern shore of the GOM. i said there would be gas issues the first time they leaked out in the name of the first drill hole as a vent....when they started drilling they called it an exploration well, then one time it was referred as a vent well i said this is about the gas! well this just has not gone so well for the WELLS down there....so they say they need more wells.... go fix your leaking tire with a DRILL! this is not going to end WELL! well said! Well well. That crazy little monkey Jindal is now the 'quiet governor' no gravitas implied. In a fetal position in the corner of his closet, unable to force this company to cough up enough to buy out a few residents hostage to this ass leak? See what happens, how it highlights just how dull and lacking an elected is (I was stunned after katrina he was actually reelected) and absolutely lost when being paged to do his job, which he assumed was all about TAKING just because he's BobbyBobbyBobby. Jindal wasn't the governor here during Katrina. That would be Blanco, who definitely didn't get re-elected. justanothergranny User ID: 28683516 United States 01/21/2013 01:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've looked on the new vid posted today, and must be blind. I'm having trouble telling exactly where the new bubbling is. Old eyes, I guess. But I'd say that the strong bubbling, the strong seismic sctivity, and the steady growth of the sinkhole (compare that Oct photo to the newest fly-over!) is an indicator of things getting worse. If the new bubbling is closer to the butane caverns, that really is bad news! I haven't seen any info lately on readings on the bottom depth of the TX Brine cavern. Last I saw said that the bottom had risen by another 30 feet, I believe. But that was a couple of months ago. Wonder if they've taken any further measurements! For those of you who haven't read the other threads about the sinkhole, it was determined that the bottom of the cavern is being deformed upward, probably due to the pressure of the immense methane/oil deposit under the salt dome. That methane is believed to be rising to the surface via cracks in the salt, and is now in the local aquifer. Thanks for posting this info today, OP. Forgot to say that earlier! That is the only thing that would prevent another Lake Nyos; Lake Nyos is a crater lake in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, located about 315 km (196 mi) northwest of Yaoundé.[1] Nyos is a deep lake high on the flank of an inactive volcano in the Oku volcanic plain along the Cameroon line of volcanic activity. A volcanic dam impounds the lake waters. A pocket of magma lies beneath the lake and leaks carbon dioxide (CO2) into the water, changing it into carbonic acid. Nyos is one of only three known exploding lakes to be saturated with carbon dioxide in this way, the others being Lake Monoun, 100 km (62 mi) away SSE, and Lake Kivu in Democratic Republic of Congo. On August 21, 1986, possibly as the result of a landslide, Lake Nyos suddenly emitted a large cloud of CO2, which suffocated 1,700 people and 3,500 livestock in nearby towns and villages.[2] Though not completely unprecedented, it was the first known large-scale asphyxiation caused by a natural event. To prevent a recurrence, a degassing tube that siphons water from the bottom layers of water to the top allowing the carbon dioxide to leak in safe quantities was installed in 2001, with two additional tubes being installed in 2011. They need to evacuate all those people within a 50 mile radius, relocate them all. Abandon and restrict that area. The Napoleon salt dome is going to collapse. All that water entering it's pockets are melting all the salt. The cavern will loose it's integrity and collapse as a whole. It will become a huge lake. |
