Re: BREAKING: Scientist claims comet ISON has companions!
The real question you are rising is orbiting bodies around ISON. Regardless of composition, ISON is too small to have orbiting satellites.

And be realistic, a dirty snow ball can be almost anything in space. Dirty with what? Iron, sulfur, Space Monkey Seamen.........What is the ice? Water ice, methane or other common gas frozen solid?
 Quoting: --Voltaic--:

Nice point. Do you remember the 50s-90s days on comets? If you have old archives at you reach, you will find out that comets were literally considered ice balls with low percentage of dirty or rock to science. Then the first bigger then average comets starts to appear and they changed the high ice low rock to less ice and more rock. After the first time a ship visited a comet, they realized that comets are in fact hot, black, dry and totally made of rock, nothing else. If you look for this words in google you will find this mission in a NASA website. This was a problem because no water or ice was seen in the nucleous nor even anywhere else, so where does the coma and tails formed?

So they changed again the dirty snow ball comet model by stating that the ice should be anywhere inside the nucleous, and the little streams they see above the surface of the comet was considered the flux that causes coma and tail. Do you realize how many times the oficial scientific model has to be changed to accomodate observations? This is not the way a scientific model works, the observations should match to the model, not the inverse. Do you remember when they found out X-Rays coming out from Hayakutake in 90's? The Chandra was focused in this comet by coincidence, and the oficial explanation for X-Rays coming from a dirty snow ball came two years later, they really don't expect to find it on comets. McCanney stated exactly this behavior in his published papers in 1979. Coincidence?

Here enters the Plasma Discharge Comet Model from Prof. James McCanney, developed in 1979 which never has had modifications to fit the observations. Actually all the predictions he made were confirmed, I have the original papers. In this model, there are no ice in any form in a comet, and the coma and tails are the electric discharge performed by a body of any size (including planetary ones), crossing any solar system.

You are right to assume that this is a little comet as ever *if* the dirty snow ball is correct. If is not, and I'm sure it is wrong, probably this is a huge one. Why I would not believe in a scientist who predicts bad weather in the Sun and in the Earth months in advance with all informations like type of event, places, dates, time and strength? It's hard, man!

Re: BREAKING: Scientist claims comet ISON has companions!
No, you're equivocating. He said, and I quote "WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS ONE HAS TO BE VERY CAUTIOUS BUT AFTER EXAMINING THE DATA THAT I HAVE SEEN I WOULD SAY THAT IT APPEARS TO BE REAL ... FURTHERMORE ONE OF THE POSSIBLE COMPANIONS APPEARS TO BE AT ABOUT TWO LUNAR DISTANCES (HALF A MILLION MILES) AND HAS NOT FORMED A COMA FOR SOME ODD REASON "
Despite his lame ass attempt at throwing in a "CYA" statement at the beginning, he said he has examined the data and "it appears to be real." He goes on to tell us how far these so-called companions are from the comet. Those are conclusions that he has now published despite not providing any data to back it up. Saying it's "too early to confirm" does not excuse his bullcrap conclusions that any real astronomer, even an amateur one, would have realized was garbage based on camera noise (hot pixels). This started right after Pete's images hit the web and people started claiming they showed "companions" on this forum and others.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

IT APPEARS TO BE REAL
Appears to be is not conclusive.
 Quoting: glauco

Stop equivocating. He is giving his "professional" opinion on the matter and people (like you) use him as an appeal to authority. It's his conclusion on the matter with a "cover your ass" statement attached.
Man, are you stalking Professor?? Are you paid for that??
 Quoting: glauco

Oh here we go, you just buy his bullshit, including his BS about debunkers like me being "disinfo agents." No, I'm not "paid" and I'm not "stalking" him. The claims I debunked are right there on his shitty site.
Yes, there are other videos of ISON that show hot pixels and known asteroids near the comet, including some from Italy which are arguably higher quality images than Pete's.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

First you assume with all your teeth that Professor used the Pete's images and,
 Quoting: glauco

It's clear he did for the reasons already stated. You have not addressed those facts. His claim of "companions" originated on this forum and others, with some threads being made 3 days before he made his post about it. They all started with Pete's images. Other images were then added into those threads as well later on. He is copying those claims.
but now you assume that there are better sources than Pete's one. So how do you know which one he got?
 Quoting: Glauco

I didn't assume anything. Like I said, other images were presented on those threads as well from an observer in Italy. None of them show anything but hot pixels and known asteroids. Clearly McCanney is not an expert and doesn't know how to recognize these things.
Probably, will see.
 Quoting: Glauco

Not just "probably." McCanney was wrong. He has presented nothing to back up his claims and you act like that gives him unlimited cover to make claims without having to defend them with actual data when the threads that he is clearly copying show that the claim is wrong and even when he is shouting his fucking claims in all caps.
You just assumed that there are other sources of information other then Pete's images,
 Quoting: glauco

No, I didn't. I participated in those threads, I know for a fact that there were other images presented as well, but in all of them Pete's was the first. That's where this claim got started.
so why are you so affirmative that Professor got the one you want?
 Quoting: glauco

I don't care which "he got," he probably "got" all of the ones I mentioned and linked to, but he's hilariously wrong about what they contain and now he's resorted to lying.
Download Professor's radio shows from October to past week and you will see how long he states this is a big comet.
 Quoting: glauco

No, I will not do that nor do I have to in order to see how he's tried to support that claim in the last week or so.
Actualy he talks about this NASA's video days before all this hype started, and he does not talks about any companions.
 Quoting: glauco

Wow you're dense. And wrong on both counts. NASA's video came out on the 18th. This hype started on the 17th. McCanney talks about "companions" starting on the 20th. Now he claims that NASA's video from the 18th shows Pete's images sans "companions." The hot pixels are still there. He is a liar.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

I have no time now, but can you talk without offending? Or is your IQ too high to respect normal people?
 Quoting: glauco

I'm sick of having to explain the same thing to you over and over. You don't get it. I'd have better luck arguing with a brick wall. At least the brick wall wouldn't make appeals to a false authority.

Gee, I wonder what you'll say when ISON fails to perturb anything in the solar system the way an "earth sized" planet would as McCanney claims it is. I wonder if you'll admit you were wrong. I seriously doubt it. You'll just do like all the elenintards did and vanish without any kind of admission. I get to look forward to idiocy like this for the rest of the freaking year. Hooray!

Alright, let's bet? If something really weird occurs during the timeframe of September 15 - November 10 between Mars and this comet, you start a new thread favorable to Professor McCanney. If nothing happens, I will do a new thread to admit it. Agree?

 Quoting: Dr. Astro

No problem man. If something weird occurs to Mars or Mercury, including gravitational modifications to the comet or to the planets (this comet would not do anything gravitational to these planets if is small), electric discharges between this comet and planets (literally electric discharges, like the ones we see on thunderstorms), large mountain building on Mars, or a new atmosphere to the entire planet.

As a bonus, if the mars land rovers shutdown to never return during the period of September 15th to October 10th, it will be considered a weird thing. As the last one was designed to last for decades, nothing strange should happen to him if not by an external weird thing. Do you agree?

Don't forget: events occurring only during the time frame of September 15th to October 10th! You have all the chances, right?

As much as i find this interesting i must admit i'm skeptical about isons "companions"

Well at least i think it to be too soon to be sure of anything.

But who knows maybe it is more than just a comet...

There's the problem. You won't agree to a specific criteria, you'll handwave to "anything weird." I'm sure some idiot will make some youtube video along the lines of a jcattera, a donny gillson, or even a sinixster claiming "something weird" with Mars or Mercury at some point in that time frame. And then you'd come back and say "see, see" and bitch when I didn't make a thread supporting it and McCanney because it's still bullshit. Nevertheless I will be showing that this comet failed to perturb the positions of the planets in a way that would be consistent with it being the size of the earth or larger. If you want to continue to support a known liar like McCanney, that is your choice.
As a bonus, if the mars land rovers shutdown to never return during the period of September 15th to October 10th, it will be considered a weird thing.
 Quoting: glauco

That could happen at any time. Opportunity is long, long past its intended lifespan and Curiosity is the most complex machine we've ever sent there. A shutdown would not indicate anything "weird," though it is less likely for Curiosity to fail, shit does happen. Thanks for proving your confirmation bias.
Don't forget: events occurring only during the time frame of September 15th to October 10th! You have all the chances, right?
 Quoting: glauco

Nope. It's basically guaranteed that one of you idiots will make some youtube video claiming something weird happened to one of those planets in that timeframe. I do not agree. I will show that McCanney's claim about the comet's size is wrong though. You will of course fail to admit it.

All visible from Earth and some using amateur astronomical equipment.

I know for sure that to have all the instruments in Mars failing during a so specific time frame is near impossible, I offer this to improve your chances of winning this bet. But if you don't want this chance, no problem, let's focus only in planetary issues, alright?

All it takes is some idiot on youtube claiming to see that happening and you win the bet. I'm not playing your game. I know damn well how very often some moron claims to see "outbursts," "explosions," or other "strange things" happening on a planet in the solar system (including it being out of place) while watching it either in their shitty camcorder, STEREO Heliospheric imager, COR2, or sometimes even their own telescopes. Those sorts of threads pop up on GLP all the time. I'm not playing that game. I will continue to show McCanney to be wrong and I will show that it did not disturb the positions of the planets or asteroids. You don't get it, I am not going to fall for your crap and I will not agree to your terms. I will continue to debunk McCanney's claim though, but not by your conditions or terms.

Re: BREAKING: Scientist claims comet ISON has companions!

Man, you don't understand, I'm saying that *everyone* in the world will see that, including you if you don't close your eyes. As I said, I will not use any youtube video, or claims, or pictures, or websites. You will see this from your home, everybody in the world will see, there will be no necessity of getting proofs in any place in the world. This is the most easy bet anyone could make in the Universe, you cannot lose it! Why don't you agree if you are so certain about comets being a little dirty snowball?

I have no time now, but can you talk without offending? Or is your IQ too high to respect normal people?
 Quoting: glauco

IQ and respect have no correlation in the way you dictated. In fact, greater IQ lends to a more respectful character.

This statement of yours shows your willingness to base your reality around false presumptions.

When used in debate, it clearly indicates you have no tangible asset of argument. Which also indicates an emotional bias of argument versus a logical one.
 Quoting: --Voltaic--

I'm not talking to you, I was talking to the Doc. But I'm sure IQ and respect are not related, see the way he acts. He looks very intelligent.

I already explained why I do not agree and it has nothing to do with my convictions about my beliefs. I learned long ago not to trust kooks. I will do things my way.

You are on a public forum engaged in a debate. Yet, you already know this. Your using the word "but" after your first sentence shows me you are indicating opposition of agreement.

Opposition between who you are talking to versus the correlation of IQ and respect.

You admit defeat of example by doing so. Which one? The 1st sentence is solid in confidence. The 2nd is questionable by using "I'm sure" as a support to encourage belief, only needed when being false.

Based on your use of grammar, I am certain you are jealous of people smarter then your self and are willing to resort to false concepts achieving a "falsely earned" victory to support your delusional belief structure.

Don't do turns in my words. I just don't like the way he huffed, and I'm having more problems writing in English (I'm Brazilian) than debating to him.

I've proven my points, moving on now.

Besides, broken english or not, the word/concept of "but" is universal.

Countering your statements, telling me a lot how you think.

Do you want to bet or not? You know you have all the chances. If you don't agree with a so easy bet for you to win... sorry, but you are a chicken.

Whatever it is flying through the sky has such a massive gravitational impact on earth that the earths spin is slowing. In 5 years time, the earth will stop spinning all together. s226
