Re: Obamacare Kicks In. Stoppage Of Care, Higher Premiums.
My 52 yo brother who is on medicaid had a heart attack in December. They put a stent in and told him they would give him a month to rest, but that he would need to come back in a month for either a bypass or at least 3 stents. He followed up with the doc who is now telling im (after January) that the meds should take care of the blockages! He isn't even on a statin! I am afraid for his life since he has at least three major blockages. This has to be Obama care crap. I mean, in December he was in the hospital and it was urgent that he have surgery in 1 month now it's meds and walking? I have NEVER heard of that! It's like they are trying to kill him!
 Quoting: Requiemdream (Ghost)

Medicine that my mother used to get, AND my husband used to get, are now not available under obamacare as of January 1st.

Why can't she live with family? That is how it use to be long ago. Family took care of its own. Family should take care of its own. Can any of you take her into your homes? That is what I am my siblings are preparing to do. Don't expect the government to take care of what is your responsibility. I know it is harsh but it is reality. I am right there with you as are many others who have parent/s to take care of.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550123

I know. But it is also about how are we going to deal with what is our future. And unfortunately people like your mom and mine are going to have to deal with having to live with family in order to be taken care of or not being taken care of at all. There is no room for stubborn anymore. Things are going to change and we have to make the best of it. Our paychecks are less now because of more taxes. I can moan about it or can figure out what to do. And yes I did moan and now I have to fix the budget. Your mom is going to have to get real about what life she has left.
 Quoting: tiger1

What do you mean by "they have to deal with it or not be taken care of at all"?
Diseases like Altzheimer's and Dementia are on the rise. People live many years with those illnesses but need 24/7 care. Do you assume that it's right that the healthy and younger people give up their careers, stop making any income and become unpaid caregivers of their sick relatives? What kind of health care system would that be in a so called advanced society. Have you ever seen the statistics about impact on the caregiver? They develop heart disease and many other chronic deadly illnesses from caregiver stress taking care of family members and sometimes die before the person they cared for. That has nothing to do with "no more room for stubborn". Caring for seriously ill and demented people and there will be many is such a burden on the family, that it will create a nation of sick people and they will have no one to care for them just as you said "not be taken care of at all." What does that mean. They will just be left to die miserably?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550123

You can only do so much as a family member. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. My husband is sick, and disabled from a work injury. He had a terrible time breathing again last night. I sure did not get very much sleep. My older brother is now doing most of my mothers care, and my youngest daughter and I are helping out once a week. My oldest daughter, as I posted in this thread earlier, needs SOME help. I have severe health issues. This stress is doing me in. I need help doing things myself, between my severe arthritus and the COPD, but there is virtually no one to help me, except for my youngest daughter, who is a full time college student, and has extra classes this semester. She is living on campus, and is not far away, but this puts a strain on her too.

my insurance went sky high the beginning of the year
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32760268

Join the club. Everyone I talked to had theirs skyrocket.
 Quoting: tiger1

Yep, ours did too.

Family of 4 we used to pay a co-pay of 20$ to see the DR for a cold or sore throat.

NOW we have a higher premium and no longer is there co-pay's instead we pay everything, full stop until we reach 1300.00$ for the year, THEN we get to pay 20% still!!

So in effexct we can no longer afford the 165$ to see the DR for a cold or sore throat. We will now be waiting until we are close to dropping dead, the cold being to the point of intollerable befor we go to the DR.

For this nice new set up we also get to pay an extra 100$ a month for it, so it's not even like we are getting it cheaper and can throw what money we might have saved into a savings account to pay for medical.

Talk about your cluster fuck double whammy.

Just wait till this really really starts to kick in for people. They are going to get pissed off.

(my mom, who is disabled, on SSI/SS had her food stamps reduced 46$ a month because "her medical costs were lower"

YEAH BECAUSE THEY CUT THEM...DUR
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27704375

Learn how to take care of a cold/sore throat yourself. No one should need to run to the doctor for little things. Earth Clinic has tons of information on just about any health problem and what can be done for it. Empower yourself and quit relying on doctors who many times haven't a clue as what to do and can many times make a problem even worse.

Re: Obamacare Kicks In. Stoppage Of Care, Higher Premiums.
In the good ol' days, people didn't go to the doctor until they were at death's door, just to know for sure what it was they were dying from so their obituary would be accurate. Medical services today are nearly 100% over-used because of the perception that they are 'free' or should be widely available at a cheap price. People need to realize that they can likely look after themselves better than doctors can. Doctors should only be a last-resort measure to, for instance, set broken bones.

Natural cures are always ALWAYS much more effective and better for your body than chemical toxin ingestion (so-called meds).

Raw crushed organic garlic, a few cloves in the morning and a few cloves in the evening, washed down with organic lemon juice in spring water, cures just about everything this life has to throw at you, disease-wise (except garlic breath).

There's no cure for old. People just need to be patient with the elderly and appreciate them while they're still around. How you care for them (note I didn't say 'how you medicate them' or 'how you operate on them') HOW YOU CARE FOR THEM will determine in large part how you are cared for in your old age.

People are addicted to doctors and chemical toxic 'meds'. Break that habit, and you'll live longer and better.

Jesus you would think everyone gets the same shit! I wish to god my 125$/month RX for a rare skin problem was only 4$.

How bout you stop thinking everyone is the same and stop belittling anyone that doesnt get their RX for 4$ at WALMART!

By the way, my old befor Obama-screwed-me-care PAID MOST of that, I only had to pay 25$/month.

For what its worth I do think a national healthcare is a necessity, but the problem we are having here in America with it is every rich ass politician is getting his fat fuck fingers in on the deal so he can live out his days in beach front mansions screwing the 18 yr old house keeper/nanny. We need to take the "profit" out of the equation starting with the middle man, INSURANCE COMPANIES!!

Re: Obamacare Kicks In. Stoppage Of Care, Higher Premiums.
I was barely into the new year and I learned my doctor quit(and went to work for a non-profit Jewish senior care ctr; probably w/better pay), I'm potentially loosing coverage for one of my asthma medications (or I can pay out of pocket $329 every couple of months)and because I'm low income, my free Part D medicare, now has a monthly co-pay premium of $3.40 (with no cap, so I expect it to keep going up).
I've told people who voted for Obama that what he did was take a successful program for seniors (since 1965)and gutted it to the tune of almost one trillion dollars and spread the coverage around to everyone (legal and illegal).
As far as "death panels", I have heard that after the age of 75, certain surgeries, treatments, medications will not be available. Sounds like a death sentence for seniors to me.
 Quoting: Videobarbs 22467275

The targeted demographic for unlimited care is ages 15-40. After that, there is a gradual decline in the kind and amount of care available, depending on age. My husband is 60.

I don't know how anyone can be happy about this montrosity. Obamacare took a healthcare cost crisis and added an more cost to it with a bloated bureacracy to oversee it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32725555

Starting next year, if you do not have medical coverage, you have to pay a penalty.
I have to add that my oldest daughter, who has multiple disabilities, had her medicaid coverage cut off as of January 1st. She was born with mild spina bifida, bilateral hip dysplasia, and is LD, EH, and ADHD. The letter we got in said that she was now healthy. LOL, what a crock. There is no appeal.
 Quoting: tiger1

No, starting next year, if you don't have coverage, the IRS will send you a stern letter claiming you owe them money. They can't do anything about it yet, except threaten. That will probably change, after enough people scoff at them, but for now you're safe.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1063144

We do not have to file taxes after this year, because what little income we have, is not taxable. The penalties will be on the tax forms. We get to dodge the obamacare robbers.

From the stress you are under, you are most likely very acid. This is causing your body to steal calcium from your bones/teeth to keep your blood at a certain ph. You can alleviate this stress by taking baking soda at least 2 times a day. Morning and evening at least 1/2 hour away from meals. 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in water twice a day will get your tissues alkaline so your body doesn't have to steal calcium from you which could be the cause of the arthritis. It is cheap and you will feel the difference at least in a month if not sooner.

Re: Obamacare Kicks In. Stoppage Of Care, Higher Premiums.
My mother, who has congestive heart failure, and is on oxygen, as of January 1st no longer has a nurse come and check on her once a week, due to the Medicare cuts. As of August 1st of 2012, when the first round of cuts came, her once a week Physical Therapist was totally cut, her nurse was cut to 1 day a week from 2 days, and her CNA was cut from 2 hours twice a week, to 1 hour once a week. She was told that the CNA might be totally cut too. She still lives in her own home, by herself, sparing the taxpayers the cost of nursing home care. IF she would go into a nursing home, the money available from the liquidation of the few assetts would be gone in a few months, and then Medicaid would pick up the tab.
My older brother was notified by mail on saturday, that the medical insurance premium for his school age son has gone up from $100 a month to $750 a month. That's right, a 650% INCREASE !!! My brother, who was forced to retire early a year and a half ago, was covering my nephew on his work policy. He cancelled the medical insurance, as the increased premium eats up nearly his whole pension check. He called for an explanation, and was told EVERYONE got an increase, whether a retired employee or one that is still employed.
Obamacare has done nothing to help the health care crisis in our country. Instead, it has made health care totally unaffordable, and the rationing of care has begun.

I had to drop my wife and two kids off of my insurance because of the increases. Not only did insurance premiums more than double in one year, but the amount that was covered was reduced by half. Deductible doubled as well.

My family was left with a choice:

A - Insurance
B - Food and Shelter

We chose food and shelter, but it leaves us open to catastrophic financial failure if one of us acquires a major medical condition.

Can't wait to see what the next four years are like.

Starting next year, you will have to pay a penalty for your family not having insurance. I do not remember the exact amount, but I do remember that the amount increases every year.
Maybe someone reading this has got the penalty amounts???

I think it was 2% of gross income or something like that. Not sure how they will enforce that to be honest. I'll deal with it when it happens. Simply can't just stop eating because of this.
Medical insurance was a scam before my premiums went up anyway.

My wife has no insurance by choice - we can't afford it and we don't need it (I have mine provided, and can't opt out). We'll have no choice but to buy her some. We're going to be hurting.

She owns her home she lives in. She is very independant. We DO take care of her, but not 24/7. She will not move in with anyone, and does not want anyone staying with her. She will be 90 this coming sunday.
This thread is not about where she resides, it is about what obamacare has done to people who have medical needs, and are paying for medical insurance, and not getting their needed care any longer. This thread is also about how people are getting screwed because of obamacare, with higher premiums, and starting next year, paying penalties because they do not have insurance.
 Quoting: tiger1

I have also heard that whatever a person leaves behind at death the government can claim half of it. I think it is inheritance tax. If I were her I would sell the house now and use that to live on while living with my kids. Or giving what I want to my kids before the government takes it. Make sure she has a good will so the house doesn't get hung up somewhere where no one can sell it. There are a few in my neighborhood this has happened to.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550123
Actually, you or one of your siblings should go on the house title with her as joint tenants with rights of survivor ship. When one passes the other owns 100%. No inheritance tax, no courts, no anything. My insurance went up $85.00 a week at work. Another 2% increase in the ss tax, and the other poster is on the money with taking care of our families.

It appears that the conditions, which once motivated us to seek help within our religious communities, are relevant currently. While obamacare has not completely nullified church care, yet please seek help within your church congregation.

Years ago a friend whose husband fell victim to a flesh-eating bacteria approached social services and they wanted their land, house, savings and checking accounts and retirement to provide meager assistance while her church members willingly gave their time to care for him while she worked.

Obmacare is simply looking for ways to steal your money.
