“Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”

Now he is permitted to "strike his flesh and bones".

 Quoting: KoFFee_

So is this saying the adversary hath no power except that granted by God?

As in Scripture it states
I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and I create evil; I am the Lord, Who does all these things.
Isaiah 45:7

Also we're told,
You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy; But I tell you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

So should we love the adversary (but detest the actions of) as in doing what he does, he is in actuality doing Gods work (though he may not realize it)?

So then, He shows mercy to those He wants to, and He hardens those He wants to harden.You will say to me, therefore, “Why then does He still find fault? For who can resist His will?” But who are you, a mere man, to talk back to God? Will what is formed say to the one who formed it, “Why did you make me like this?” Or has the potter no right over the clay, to make from the same lump one piece of pottery for honor and another for dishonor? And what if God, desiring to display His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience objects of wrath ready for destruction? And what if He did this to make known the riches of His glory on objects of mercy that He prepared beforehand for glory— on us, the ones He also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?

and yes, I'm being sincere

hi koffee,the book of job has been an excellent example for me over the past couple of years. I seem to drift from one trauma to another but at least my children are all healthy,i dont know how my faith would survive if i had to see any of them suffer.anyway i just wanted to say that jobs predicament always reminds me of the story of the wind and the sun.a man is out walking,wearing a warm cloak.the wind tells the sun how much stronger he is than him,and challenges to sun to see who can remove the cloak from the man.the wind goes first and blows up a gale,but the harder he blows the tighter the man holds onto his cloak.next the sun shines brightly with all his warmth and the man takes off the cloak himself...its kinda like faith.the more the evil causes our sufferring,the tighter we hold onto the lord.....just thought id share that. hfhfhf

Re: What is one lesson of Job for all people? God REMAINS ENOUGH.
AND on the seventh day there went forth from the presence of God a mighty angel, full of wrath and consuming, and God gave unto him the dominion of the outermost sphere.

2. Eternity brought forth time; the boundless gave birth to limit; being descended into generation.

3. As lightning I beheld Satan fall from heaven, splendid in strength and fury.

4. Among the Gods is none like unto Him, into whose hand are committed the kingdoms, the power and the glory of the worlds:

5. Thrones and empires, the dynasties of kings, the fall of nations, the birth of churches, the triumphs of time.

6. They arise and pass, they were and are not; the sea and the dust and the immense mystery of space devour them.

7. The tramp of armies, the voices of joy and of pain, the cry of the new-born babe, the shout of the warrior mortally smitten.

8. Marriage, divorce, division, violent deaths, martyrdoms, tyrannous ignorances, the impotence of passionate protest, and the mad longing for oblivion:

9. The eyes of the tiger in the jungle, the fang of the snake, the fœtor of slaughter-houses, the wail of innocent beasts in pain:

10. The innumerable incarnations of spirit, the strife towards manhood, the ceaseless pulse and current of desire:--

11. These are his who beareth all the Gods on his shoulders;[V] who establisheth the pillars of necessity and fate.

12. Many names hath God given him, names of mystery, secret and terrible.

p. 170

13. God called him Satan the Adversary, because matter opposeth spirit, and time accuseth even the saints of the Lord.

14. And the Destroyer, for his arm breaketh and grindeth to pieces; wherefore the fear and the dread of him are upon all flesh.

15. And the Avenger, for he is the anger of God; his breath shall burn up all the souls of the wicked.

16. And the Sifter, for he straineth all things through his sieve, dividing the husk from the grain; discovering the thoughts of the heart; proving and purifying the spirit of man.

17. And the Deceiver, for he maketh the false appear true, and concealeth the real under the mask of illusion.

18. And the Tempter, for he setteth snares before the feet of the elect: he beguileth with vain shows, and seduceth with enchantments.

19. Blessed are they who withstand his subtlety: they shall be called the Sons of God, and shall enter in at the beautiful gates.

20. For Satan is the doorkeeper of the temple of the King: he standeth in Solomon's porch; he holdeth. the keys of the sanctuary;

21. That no man may enter therein save the Anointed, having the arcanum of Hermes.

22. For Satan is the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom.

23. He is the devourer of the unwise and the evil: they shall all be meat and drink to him.

24. Whatsoever he devoureth, that shall never more return into being.

25. Fear him, for after he hath killed, he hath power to cast into hell.

26. But he is the servant of the Sons of God, and of the children of light.

27. They shall go before him, and he shall follow the steps of the wise.

28. Stand in awe of him and sin not: speak his name with trembling; and beseech God daily to deliver thee.

29. For Satan is the magistrate of the justice of God: he beareth the balance and the sword,

30. To execute judgment and vengeance upon all who come short of the commandments of God; to weigh their works, to measure their desire, and to number their days,

31. For to him are committed weight and measure and number.

p. 171

32. And all things must pass under the rod and through the balance, and be fathomed by the sounding-lead.

33. Therefore Satan is the minister of God, Lord of the seven mansions of Hades, the angel of the manifest worlds.

34. And God hath put a girdle about his loins, and the name of the girdle is Death.

35. Threefold are its coils, for threefold is the power of Death, dissolving the body, the ghost, and the soul.

36. And that girdle is black within, but where Phoibos strikes it is silver.

37. None of the Gods is girt save Satan, for upon him only is the shame of generation.

38. He hath lost his virginal estate: uncovering heavenly secrets, he hath entered into bondage.

39. He encompasseth with bonds and limits all things which are made: he putteth chains round about the worlds, and determineth their orbits.

40. By him are creation and appearance; by him birth and transformation; the day of begetting and the night of death.

41. The glory of Satan is the shadow of the Lord: the throne of Satan is the footstool of Adonai.

42. Twain are the armies of God: in heaven the hosts of Michael; in the abyss the legions of Satan.

43. These are the unmanifest and the manifest; the free and the bound; the virginal and the fallen.

44. And both are the ministers of the Father, fulfilling the word divine.

45. The legions of Satan are the creative emanations, having the shapes of dragons, of Titans, and of elemental gods;

46. Forsaking the intelligible world, 1 seeking manifestation, renouncing their first estate;

47. Which were cast out into chaos, neither was their place found any more in heaven.

(2)

48. Evil is the result of limitation, and Satan is the Lord of limit.

49. He is the father of lies, because matter is the cause of illusion.

p. 172

50. To understand the secret of the kingdom of God, and to read the riddle of Maya, this is to have Satan under foot.

51. He only can put Satan under foot who is released by thought from the bonds of desire.

52. Nature is the allegory of spirit: all that appeareth to the sense is deceit: to know the truth,--this alone shall make men free.

53. For the kingdom of Satan is the house of matter: yea, his mansion is the sepulchre of Golgotha, wherein on the seventh day the Lord lay sleeping, keeping the Sabbath of the unmanifest.

54. For the day of Satan is the night of spirit: the manifestation of the worlds of form is the rest of the worlds informulate.

55. Holy and venerable is the Sabbath of God: blessed and sanctified is the name of the angel of Hades;

56. Whom the Anointed shall overcome, rising again from the dead on the first day of the week.

57. For the place of Satan is the bourne of divine impulsion: there is the arrest of the outgoing force; Luza, the station of pause and slumber:

58. Where Jacob lay down and dreamed, beholding the ladder which reached from earth to heaven.

59. For Jacob is the planetary angel Iacchos, the Lord of the body;

60. Who hath left his father's house, and is gone out into a far country.

61. Yet is Luza none other than Bethel; the kingdom of Satan is become the kingdom of God and of His Christ.

62. For there the Anointed awakeneth, arising from sleep, and goeth his way rejoicing;

63. Having seen the vision of God, and beheld the secret of Satan;

64. Even as the Lord arose from the dead and brake the seal of the sepulchre;[V]

65. Which is the portal of heaven, Luza, the house of separation, the place of stony sleep;

66. Where is born the centripetal force, drawing the soul upward and inward to God;

67. Recalling Existence into Being, resuming the kingdoms of matter in spirit;[W]

68. Until Satan return unto his first estate, and enter again into the heavenly obedience;

p. 173

69. Having fulfilled the will of the Father, and accomplished his holy ministry,

70. Which was ordained of God before the worlds, for the splendour of the manifest, and for the generation of Christ our Lord;[X]

71. Who shall judge the quick and the dead, putting all things under his feet; whose are the dominion, the power, the glory, and the Amen.[A]

First of all thank's KoFFee for the post!

As Christians we are likely not going to be loved by or prosper in this world. In fact we are called to suffer. Just like the many saints who have gone before us, or even Jesus himself, we must lay down everything to truly serve the Lord.

(1 Peter 4:12-13, Philippians 1:29, Philippians 3:8, Psalm 34:19, 1 Peter 4:16, 1 Peter 3:14, 1 Peter 3:17, Romans 8:16-17, John 15:18-19, Matthew 5:9-12)

Here are a couple sermons you should check out that I found online that are super moving:

Secondly,

The KJV is the only TRUE word of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Do not fall for these lukewarm, satanic "bibles". You have been warned. Proverbs 3:5-7. John 14:26.

^^^ Amen to this. I can provide examples of scripture where versions of the Bible other than the KJV pervert the scripture and deny creation by and through Jesus Christ, as well as even deny Jesus' deity.

I of course do believe the most important thing is prayer and having the the Holy Spirit dwelling in you, but cmog is right, these other Bibles should really only be used for reference or better understanding a verse, supplementary to the KJV, anyone can read the archaic KJV with help from the Holy Spirit!

Have a blessed day.

These are the trials/tribulations that all true children of God must endure, however our future and potential are beyond our wildest imaginings. We shall inherit "all things (ta panta in the Greek- the ALL). The first resurrection/translation will be the royal sons and daughters of the God family who will rule and reign with Christ for all eternity.

Thank you. I needed to read this.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21577406

IT RAINS ON THE JUST AND THE UNJUST

I would be lying if I told you that Christians will observe sorrow, trouble, unemployment and depression on all sides while they themselves remain safe within a cozy cocoon of health and wealth. The Bible says God causes the rain to fall on both the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45). Job was holy—yet he suffered! But just as God brought Job out of his affliction, so He will bring us out even though we, too, will go through the fire.

Hundreds of ministers are meeting to pray in different cities, and the same confession is heard: "Never have so many been so deeply tested. Satan has come like a flood, with trouble, hardship, deep sorrow and pain befalling the godly."

Satan was Job's troubler and he is your troubler. Could it be that he has stood again before God and issued a great accusation against the last-days church? He might have challenged God, "It is the last hour, but You have no true church. You have no spotless bride. There are no wise virgins; in fact, most of them are asleep. Look at them—materialistic, self-centered, grasping for riches and the good life. Listen to their teachers telling them they need not suffer, that all things are theirs for the asking.

"Take down Your wall of protection, God! Let me put them to the test. You won't even have a holy remnant left. I'll take away their employment. I'll smite them with sorrows. I'll pour out a spirit of fear and despondency, and flood them with temptations. You will see this last, pampered generation fold. There are no Jobs in this church. They are spiritual wimps!"

Beloved, this is why the Scripture says, "Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time" (Revelation 12:12).

In the midst of your trial, some of you already have adopted the despairing language of Job. Your heart cries out, "God, what did I do wrong? I don't understand why this calamity has fallen on me when I loved You most, my walk was holy, my heart pure, and my spirit was longing after You. It seems like the closer I draw to You, the deeper I fall into trouble and the more sorrows come.”

We do not realize how important it is to God that we trust Him through all the floods of trouble that come upon us from hell. You see, the devil cannot touch you or test you unless God first lets down the wall and allows it.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in heavenly places."
Ephesians 6:12

When reading the first two chapters of Job, we are reminded that there is a "cosmic conflict" going on behind the scenes that we are usually unaware of.

Even now, as I type, there is spiritual activity happening with "the rulers of the darkness of this world", and with angelic beings, both good and evil in the invisible realm.

Much of the evil in this physical world is a direct result of the unseen war in the spiritual world.

Compared to:

"and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things." -Ephesians 3:9 (NIV)

Consider Also:

"Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God" -Philippians 2:6 (KJV)

Compared to:

"who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped" -Philippians 2:6 (ESV)

I would only suggest using the KJV.

Re: What is one lesson of Job for all people? God REMAINS ENOUGH.
Good Morning, Everyone.
I just woke up about a half hour ago to bring my son to work in the minus 1 degree weather------brrrrrrrr.

Now I'm enjoying my first cup of delicious hot coffee as I check out GLP to grab some news headlines before heading out.

I noticed the thread was pinned. I don't know who did it or when, but "Thank You".

I did spend a considerable amount of time studying the Book of Job yesterday, along with various commentaries.

I tend to neglect Old Testament reading, but after prayer yesterday morning, I returned to my desk and noticed my Bible was opened to the first page of Job, so I decided to read it.

Because the question of suffering is addressed, I thought, "how perfect are the lessons and the divine and human wisdom that is offered in this book to all who suffer". I need to read more.

I have to leave soon to help a friend out regarding a dire family situation, but I will be back later to view what others have written.

I pray that God's Word will be heard and acted upon. Thanks to all for the helpful and encouraging comments.

May His Peace be with you

Re: What is one lesson of Job for all people? God REMAINS ENOUGH.
^^^ Amen to this. I can provide examples of scripture where versions of the Bible other than the KJV pervert the scripture and deny creation by and through Jesus Christ, as well as even deny Jesus' deity.
 Quoting: Witness for Him

Then why does the KJV have this

And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

where IIRC all other versions have it as passover?
 Quoting: <ambiguous>

Yes easter is definitely a pagan holiday. In the scripture here (acts 12:1-4) it's not referring to easter as we know it today (the one which, yes, many erroneously celebrate in place of passover) but, rather, it's litereally referring to the pagan holiday.

In the versues being questioned, it states that herod proceeded to take peter "during the days of unleavened bread" which, according to scripture occurs directly following the Passover. (“In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD's passover. And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.” -Leviticus 23:5-6) intending after easter to bring him forth to the people. This means that the day of Passover had already occurred, and in the KJV the word “Easter” could not have been referring to the Passover, but rather the pagan holiday itself.

So again, the KJV is the only one that actually translates it correctly.

Check out the link you'll see what I mean.

Re: What is one lesson of Job for all people? God REMAINS ENOUGH.
Trusting God isn’t easy when tragedy strikes.

This morning, my Bible fell open to the first page of the Book of Job, so I began to read it.

It is always fascinating to see what the Holy Ghost will illuminate.

At times, I have what I call "cartoon thinking". I think in comical imagery, so it struck me funny when I read:

"One day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them".

It's that last part, "and Satan also came with them"-- he just happened to be tagging along.....doot doot de doo.

And the Lord says to Satan, "Where have you come from?". As if He didn't know already.

Satan answers, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."

How many of you thought of this verse after reading that?:

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour" 1 Peter 5:8

Our Lord continues to say,
"Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him, he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."

Oh, oh, I see some tribulation coming.

Most of us know what happens next -- Satan rejects God's view of Job's devout character.

“Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan asks.

Satan implies that Job is simply out for what he can get from God and he argues:

“Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has?
“You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.”

It's as if he is saying, "it's not You that he loves, it's just his possessions and what you have blessed him with".

So he poses a challenge to God.

“Stretch out your hand and strike everything he has,” Satan dares God, “and he will surely curse you to your face.”

I imagine God is not hesitant in His reply as He knows Job's heart and what the outcome will be.

“Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”

God permits Satan to inflict Job--and only within the limits God Himself has established.

So Satan grabs a handful of torments from his bag of suffering and heaps them on blameless Job.

One after another, messengers come to tell Job the bad news of all that he lost--oxen, donkeys, sheep, camels, servants and the worst -- the destruction of his sons and daughters
.
How did Job respond?

“In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.” (Job 1:22)

except god didn't carry on this way and doesn't carry on this way. this is but another silly fairy tale in the bible that is probably also mistranslated. Is this the latest thing to consider because others are starting the same discussion on other forums. there is not a god person of this sort involved in earth, you make it sound like god has 2 legs and walks around here. NO, but there are those who are one with god who do.

God doesn't just let the satan person torture people only so much etc. Disgusting view of God. You seem to forget God is within YOU. and not walking around in a body called God.

“The kingdom of God is within you,”

The word “within in the Greek is “entos,” which is accurately translated “in the midst of”. So it really should be understood as Jesus saying the Kingdom of God is within your midst, or among you.

In other words, wherever Jesus is, it accompanies Him. What it does NOT mean is that it resides in everyone.

To enter this kingdom you must be born again.

Jesus said “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.” Matt 21:31
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task
the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:24

That AC was moi GfG - I did say that one needs to get past the first 5/6 points and then digest and understand fully what is being said.

It is not Satanic in the slightest - I understand it may feel uncomfortable but it is nothing more than a small revelation of Gods intention and will of his creation and Satans role in its' workings.

It is about understanding how to recognize the workings of 'Satan' and overcoming his challenges.

As all is of Gods Creation nothing can be separated from it - All we can do is try our best to understand the Nature of it.

"Every believer must know their enemy, his ways and the power they have beengiven through Jesus our Lord.

Satan is a master manipulator.

Ever since the beginning of time he has sought to decieve and manipulate people into believe his lies.

A believer who realises who his enemy is then can be well equipped to stand the attacks.

A believer who does not know who his enemy is is at a disadvantage in an attack."
