Why are most people so close-minded at the possibility of ufos and aliens?
Im surprised there is people who still don't believe in ufo's and et's or at least be open to the possibility they exist and are visiting us. Just using humans as an example, we have only begun to investigate the heavens and map the cosmos. The new planet finding telescopes are just the start of a new era of space mapping and exploration. There is no doubt in my mind at some point we will travel to another planet (as long as we don't kill ourselves or revert back to a dark age first). So we know of only one intelligent civilization at the present time and we know that this civilization will visit other worlds at some point. So then, why is it so hard to comprehend that if there is other intelligent civilizations (which most, if not all scientists will admit there is more than likely more then 1) that we could have been visited now or in the past? Keeping in mind they could be tens of thousands, if not millions, or even billions of years more advanced then us. People always ask why they havent seen them then and my answer is always the same: Do you think they invented an intergalactic space craft, but somehow missed the laws of physics and how you can bend light around objects rendering things invisible? If you do get lucky and see a ufo its because they wanted you to see them. I feel like there is a greater chance that we have been visited then haven't been. What do you people think is the reason people seem to be closed to this possibility? What role does the media play in this (if any)? Just looking to understand why people that believe in science are so close minded when discussing things like aliens.

Same reason they don't believe in a God.

Or rather, it is funny that a lot of people believe in these 'unproven' creatures from space yet snub the creative force that put them here.

Man has an endemic inferiority complex and attempts to mock that which is greater than he. Inevitably I believe this is why such concepts came into existence. Man needs a guiding hand.

True, but its alot harer to rationalize the idea of god, then an alien or ufo. God would go against physics and science all together. Science wants to test and understand, and obiviously the mind of god would be untestable and would be off limits to science. However in my view of the world I see a place for a creater, however that falls under my faith. I can neither prove nor disprove it so I seperate that from things I can test and prove. I think the idea of ufos is testable if science would actually look at the question. Is space travel possible? How many more intelligent civilizations on other worlds are there? This question may be answered with the next generation of powerful telescopes and that should be our focus. People need to actually look at the scientific implications of aliens and ufo and take it serious.

Most people there are mostly religious, because if they exist, they think it somewhat proves that their view of earth centered universe and everything created for mankind may not be true.

Shortly, they fear of what they do not know.

Yup I think that is true for alot of people. Just look at the catholic church a few hundred years ago. They would burn you at the stake for just saying the earth was not the center of the universe.

In order to get evidence you need scientists to serously look and study the phenomenon. I know Robert Bigelow with us backing got a group of scientists together a few years back to look at it. He concluded that there was suffient evidence that ufos are visiting earth. In fact any time you report an unidentified flying object you get directed to Bigelow Aerospace. I think we need more studies like this to learn as much as possible.

I think that, because we haven't actually seen a real UFO and its inhabitants inside, close up and personal, it is like the previous posters says... the same as believing or not believing in God... a personal decision in what you believe in or not.

Personally I do believe there are real UFO's and ET's.. I believe that, simply because I just cannot believe that we are the only industrialized species in the cosmos.
I’m reluctant to say intelligent life form, because, dolphins and whales and other species here on earth are also intelligent.. and I believe, they are probably more intelligent than humans in many respects; They live in harmony on this earth, humans don’t .

Completely fallacious. In my personal opinion, this statement could not be further from the truth.

Truth was explored, discovered and ascertained during the days of Ancient Rome and the Greeks. All that needed to be known was known.

In these days an idea has emerged called collectivism. Collectivism is an interesting tool used for divide and conquer tactics. The second tool used in conjunction with collectivism is the power of labels.

Examples...

If I say, what is 'Air', many would say Oxygen. But can we see oxygen? No, but we can 'measure' it. That is EXACTLY what science does, it simply measures it and places a label. There is nothing really further beyond that unless a theory is suddenly proven wrong and re-evaluated to fit a new model or scale. Again, air is not simply Oxygen either as we all know, it is made up of nitrogen, hydrogen etc. But since collectively we have a label for what air is and what air is not, we do not question it any further. Science has thus served its ultimate end cause.

Science has found some interesting measurements about space too. The fact that embryonic development does not occur in space means that reproduction is a no go.

What about the distances? The closest galaxy is some 2.5 million light-years an is known as the Andromeda Galaxy. Again, that is 2.5 MILLION light years.

One then would say, well these beings obviously possess technology far superior to our own that would 'allow' the to transverse such far distances.

But then again, we must ask the question - if they could theoretically travel million of light years - how did they cope with the massive amounts of solar radiation that they were bombarded with throughout their voyage in space?

These are scenarios that science has no real collective answer for which to me leads to my next point...

Why is it that man is so intent on finding something greater than us? Maybe because if it is true, they have a reason to enslave you? Use your God given brain for once in your life. Stop being spoon fed horseshit.

Good point seeing is believing, I guess. So I guess for some short of a ufo landing on their front lawn they won't consider the possibilty. I still think more government and university research should be done to investigate it. Maybe they have a reason they have not openly greeted humanity. An argument could be made they see how we treat each other and don't want to find out how we treat outsiders.
I still look at science as more then seeing is believing tho. I mean I know its possible to split an atom even tho I have never seen it. It has been studied and documented, as well as preformed. I would like science to look at this and treat it as a question rather than a taboo.

So far religion and lack of evidence (another reason why we should study it more to get some evidence if it exists) are the reasons. Keep the ideas coming I'll check them out in the morning.

It's quite simple. Many refuse to consider any new concepts that challenge the paradigm of normality that many have become comfortable with due much in part to years of religious and social indoctrination.

Ignorance is bliss, parochialism is a way of life to many in this world !

What you say, makes sense to many of us, however; the governments of the world will not provide funding research about a subject that could prove they are vulnerable to a species with more advanced technologies that could make earth's governments look weak.

Most people arent ready. They would be scared to death if they encountered an extraterrestrial. Too used to being the alpha lifeform.

Even i was sedated...

Have you ever encountered a godlike being, extraterrestrial, etc. That could destroy you in an instant? Even if it were friendly, its safe to assume one would still be apprehensive, not unrightly so.. Though its my opinion, the ones i encountered were benevolent. What would you do?

this is the problem,

The Human individual influences and manifests reality to share with others. Being born into a predetermined mindset, creats the illusion that they are a meaning-less intiger among a mass of humanity.

The indvidual does not realized the power of being, and then doing to create the reality and perception of others, because this is done for them from their environment.

Spending their whole lives with a belief is confortable and they become complacent to new, out-side influences. Its like Newton's laws:

1.First law: If an object experiences no net force, then its velocity is constant: the object is either at rest (if its velocity is zero), or it moves in a straight line with constant speed (if its velocity is nonzero).[2][3][4]

2.Second law: The acceleration a of a body is parallel and directly proportional to the net force F acting on the body, is in the direction of the net force, and is inversely proportional to the mass m of the body, i.e., F = ma.

3.Third law: When a first body exerts a force F1 on a second body, the second body simultaneously exerts a force F2 = −F1 on the first body. This means that F1 and F2 are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.

There must be greater force to move, and there surely always be resistance.

You understood the intention of the declaration of my thought. To view the grammer as a finite and sole form of human communication, is nothing mroe than the ipossision of your ego's greatness upon others.

Because english is not even close to the majorit of communication upon this Earth, you should perhaps consider the idea that you yourself are resting in motion, and resisting the outside force interacting with you.

Good thread OP... We are exploring our own solar system & galaxy right now with satellites & probes, looking for signs of extra-terrestrial life - and people want to discount the possibility that other extra-terrestrial civilizations that could possibly be incredibly more advanced then ours would be engaging in the very same practice that we are presently pursuing.

I think a recent article speculates that there may be as many as 17 BILION earth-like planets in our galaxy alone:

people tend not to believe in things they never see personally even if there is evidence. For example if you look up the history of the panda bear they were like a mythological creature for decades, nobody could ever find one even though they were claimed to exist they weren't 'discovered' by the 'official scientific community' until after they had searched for decades and given up looking, one turned up.

I've seen UFO's that don't fly like a plane that requires wings and aerodynamics to get around. So I believe that UFO's are real even if they are man made. Also statistically its a big universe and there could be intelligent life on any of those billions of stars and it could be older and more advanced than us by a longshot enabling them to cross the distance we think is impossible. It's far too unlikely for aliens to not exist.

Yeah we 'humans' have been 'pretty sure' about a never-ending list of assumptions we have later been proven WRONG about.

What evidence have you uncovered that would leave you to 'doubt' that there could be intelligent life elsewhere in our entire galaxy? What makes our solar system so special that of the billions and billions of stars & planets, only this infinitely small speck of the Universe, harbors intelligent life????

We don't even currently possess the technological capability to send a manned flight beyond the reaches of our solar system and you're already ready to conclude there's nothing else out there?

huh

We are the equivalent of ants on an ant hill when it comes to technology & space exploration.

Re: Why are most people so close-minded at the possibility of ufos and aliens?
The proof of UFO's are full up. I see them as investigating angels. Angels could be the ones from hell or ones from heaven. Somehow you get the feeling which ones are evil, especially that huge black triangle, I get the creeps with that one, the good ones are the judgemental ones which puts you to shame or make you feel vindicated depending how your spiritual life is. There was one high above moving as a light in the stars we looked up and it stopped as if it looked at us and was not impressed when it read our thoughts, then moved on, horrible feeling, to have pure thoughts in this evil world due to the curse of politics is not easy.

Even the crop circles, I see them as urgent aliens trying to tell people God has risen! I would put them under the world of darkness as demons tremor in God's presence, they are terrified of God. For me crop circle pictures would make good door mats. God does not approach his children through that method, it is extremely evil, witchcraft, people are saved through the Blood of Christ and live by the gospels as they inherit the earth. Simple.

The aliens were here from the Garden of Eden days already when humans began, and is about to be bound up for good, the last of it forever, don't be fooled by these evil spirits they live inside of us, get rid of them and bear Christ's spirit together with the understanding of Who He Is and follow Him.

Aliens are fallen angels and they were here before mankind came along.

I would not be surprised if God created the dinasaurs to house their spirits, both the flesh eating ones and the non flesh eating ones, they still remain a reptile.

Lucifer and his legions they were great angels of God and God recreated them into demons. Lucifer threatened the heavens and he had to be disposed of otherwise it would have caused the demise of God Himself and the universe, hell is created for them and humans are supposed to recognise so as not to go down the drain with them, the world of darkness.

After 1000 years they are all released and a massive war breaks out with them and God's saints, the saints overcome them and they are cast into a lake of fire. I think it is called the God and Magog, the second death

The first death is our natural death and the Armageddon where people are killed when Satan gets bound for 1000 years.

1000 years is God's time to rest since He created the earth, He has not rested since then.

With God there is nothing hiding under the bush, it is all spoken and open, He revealed Who He Is in the last days, and everyone should repent and follow Him. Safest Way.

it isn't that they don't think they are alien to the earth

that part is quite correct

tho they've been here repeatedly

they are not from distant planets per se

but alternate dimensions

they are defined in detail in Gods word

we realize they will arrive as would "aliens"

and we realize that they will be supernaturally endowed as compared to those in flesh

we also understand we have power over them as given us in Christs name

and we know what must be done to play our part when they arrive

so don't be so quick to mock those you yourself aren't even clear on

unless you're eager to be denounced yourself at any rate

when the final bell has tolled

Seriously, unless it is building rockets or houses, I really could give two hoots about 'extra-terrestrial' life. These 'quackademia' always want to tout some microbe as the there it is moment in their vain attempt to shape history and the future.

Really...?

Look around you. Look into the eye of someone you love, I mean, REALLY look at it. Look at a flower. Look at the Sun. Look at yourself in the mirror.

Then, look into your solar system, do you see anywhere else like it? And you ask what evidence I have uncovered?

It is not wrong for man to assume he is the pinnacle of creation, after all - we are the eyes, ears, hands, mouth of the creator and therefore we are the builders.

Why is that so hard to believe?
