That's because Japan copied the US in its horrible system of social security and lucrative retirement plans by the government. With increasing medical technology, it was only obvious what was going to happen. It's quite sad because Japan used to have their children care for their elderly parents, now they copy the US and drop them off into elderly homes.

He's also said:

In 2001, he said Japan should become the kind of successful country in which "the richest Jews would want to live" and blamed America's inability to solve the problems of the Middle East on their "blonde hair and blue eyes".

He has also described China as a "considerable threat" because the country is "one billion people equipped with nuclear bombs".
Into my heart an air that kills From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills, What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,I see it shining plain,The happy highways where I went And cannot come again.

Then when that's said and done, the government wishes you dead.

This is why I contribute nothing to retirement. What's the point as by the time I'm 65 errr 67 the retirement age will be changed to 90. That's if I make it past 50.

Asians are an extremely racist and insular people. They do not 'celebrate' diversity or multiculturalism. They think westerners [READ: white Europeans, Americans, Canadians, Australians, etc.,] are crazy and chumps. They really do. I'm not saying they're all bad or evil or whatever, but the going attitude in white western societies in Europe, north and south America, Australia, etc., is like looking at the world through rose colored glasses. It's naive and gullible. Asians have no problem being un-P.C., racist, and insular. The sooner western people understand this, the better.

You think it's impossible?

The problem is not government healthcare vs. private healthcare.

The proplem in Japan is demographics. Private insurance companies would be hard pressed to come up with the money necessary to provide healthcare for an aging population.

My opinion is that they shouldn't put elderly people on death's door on life-support machines. Just let them die naturally and in peace. On the other hand, what I loathe is when they stop giving the person water and food to accelerate the end. As long as the person is able to eat and drink, they should. Once they're ready to die, they will refuse food automatically -- but letting someone die of starvation and dehydration seems cruel to me.

There is nothing wrong with having options in life about life. Unless you are stepford cookie cutter sheep.

I loved how all the 2nd amendment people went on and on about how wonderful Switzerland was...a gun in every house, a gun for everyone. Que; deer in field, beautiful people, safe homes....LOL!

Did you forget about their unrestricted abortion and assisted suicide for the love of your precious guns.

Americans could never do this....to many dumbass hangups about life and death.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5141990

There's nothing wrong with having options. The problems start when someone else with more power than you have begins assisting you with your options. Then soon you'll find you have no choice at all.

In the case of end of life decisions, who has more power than you do? The medical staff, your immediate family, the insurance companies, and now the government. Any one of them could pull the plug on you whether you want it or not.

This is why there should be no such thing as assisted suicide/euthanasia. Humans suck at playing God.

Greed always enters into the equation. As soon as the family decides that they're tired of waiting for grandma to die so they can inherit her money, or some bureaucrat decides grandma's care is costing too much, then grandma's as good as dead.

Plus human nature is such that we just can't seem to restrain ourselves from crossing that second line once we've crossed the first line.

A Pandora's box is best kept shut, because once it's opened, worse and worse crap just keeps flying out of it.

It is getting to the point where there is no more money to keep people alive unless they are still able to contribute to society. This is a warning that people better learn how to take care of themselves and quit looking to others(government) to do it for them. And when you get too old and sick then don't expect to be kept alive by artificial means unless you can afford it personally. Go out with some dignity.

The elderly spent the lion's share of their lives "contributing to society".

The government took money from them under the premise of caring for them in their old age, then the government stuck their hand in the social security cookie jar, spent the money on other things, and then decided "no problem, we'll just kill the old farts".

It's really no different from being mugged and then murdered.

I see no dignity in that at all.

Thanks to taxes and inflation, it's become hard for people to save up money. However, many managed to do so anyway by setting up IRAs, but it's my understanding that now the government wants to raid the elderly's private pensions as well.

I agree with you that people should not look to the government to take care of them. The problem is that the government forces you to shell out the money for your supposed care whether you want their help or not.

There are very few people who have not been kept alive by artificial means at some point in their lives. In my case, I had a kidney infection when I was in my 20's and was kept alive through the artificial means of broad spectrum antibiotics.

Refusal to dispense antibiotics has now become a way of denying elderly patients "artificial" life support. We think of respirators and machines as artificial life support, but increasingly things like antibiotics and I.V.'s have begun being defined as such.

if you guys spend some time with the 20-somethings and younger you will find they have a burning hatred for older people. school teaches them now that the medical system is drained by the elderly and as such old people take their college education away. they are also told they are nothing without college. so they get very angry and support death panels and just general murder and hatred of the older. totally fucked
