Re: Neil deGrasse Tyson: We Stopped Dreaming (about science/the future)

Not sure if this has been posted already, but after a quick search, I couldn't find it. Neil deGrasse Tyson narrates the video in his way of expressing what is missing that we had in the 70's. This video is beautiful, and I had to share it.

"How much would you pay, for the universe?"
 Quoting: Bilbo Baggins

Don't you think science would be better used to supply food and shelter for the people of the earth rather than jetting of to Mars for no reason other than our own ego. Humans will never be able to explore space unless

a) they are united under one global banner
b) we find a huge supply of easily harvestable energy that gives us lots lots lots more net energy than we had in even the 50s/60 (when net energy was at it's highest)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5285681

Don't want to start a flame war, but if you seriously think that we want to go to Mars to flex our ego, you're fucking retarded. It has nothing to do with ego, it's about the discovery of the history of mars. What it was like millions of years ago, where created all these dried up rivers, what's under the surface... how deep does one have to go under the ground to be protected from the intense solar wind that hits the surface... Is there stuff that LIVES under the surface? Is there ground water?

There's countless questions that could be answered by visiting Mars. If you can't see the enjoyment, the advancement in technologies, the possibility to expand to living on foreign worlds.. How can you not see that as cool? Perhaps you're content with what we know, and you don't care for anything that we don't know. People like you is what's holding back sciences from exploding and making huge life changing discoveries.

To answer upon the points you've made about humans never exploring space...
A) This might be true, but that's something that *I THINK* would be wonderful. Sure it probably won't happen in our live times, because people are greedy, ignorant, and arrogant about their understand of "how things work".
B) Right, we need massive amounts of energy to make exploration possible, but if we sit here and argue of it's importance, it'll never happen. Can you be satisfied with knowing that because we're too stubborn to try to create these things? Why can't we just work together and make life better for everyone?

There's practically UNLIMITED resources in space we could solve the whole money crisis with the resources from space. We could make money something of the past, if everyone had everything, what purpose would money have?

"The problem, often not discovered until late in life, is that when you look for things like love, meaning, motivation, it implies they are sitting behind a tree or under a rock. The most successful people recognize, that in life they create their own love, they manufacture their own meaning, they generate their own motivation.

For me, I am driven by two main philosophies, know more today about the world than I knew yesterday. And along the way, lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.

Put simply, nature gave you two brain halves. One half contains the functions of logic & deduction, while the other half contains the functions of intuition & pattern recognition.

It takes the use of both brain halves to see the univers fully. Science only adheres to one half. So science will never get it right unless it reinvents itself.

The Electric/Plasma Universe Theory answers all questions and OBSERVATIONS (you know, stuff that real scientists are supposed to do) and also, makes verified predictions (another requirement of true SCIENCE).

The Standard Model has never made jack-shit, and must be continually modified by "epicycles", to prop its rotting corpse up.

Yeah!

Let's invent more "Black" and "Dark" stuff, that can't be observed, so it supports the MATH!

If you don't have anything constructive to say, why bother posting? Is your life so meaningless that trolling threads, and being an asshole online fulfills your needs as a human?

Why not tell us WHY you think the things you do instead of being an obnoxious little gnat? Grow up, start acting like an adult instead of a mad little kid on the internet. If in fact you are an adult, because at this point I have a very hard believing that you are.

By the way, I'm deleting your post. again.

It was my opinion, and I think it was quite constructive considering the overall importance of the matter at hand. You don't? That's fine, especially because it's your thread I guess. But I must refute, three or so hours ago, I only posted one quick paragraph that consisted of three or so sentences, which took me a matter of seconds to type out. It probably would have been the only thing I contributed to this thread, but alas you deleted what I said. That is something that pisses me and the majority on this site off as well. Is that what you constitute as trolling good sir? If so, get your fucking head checked, I'm sure most would agree. So, let us recap... I posted my opinion, then you deleted it. Sorry to call you out but come on, who takes teh time to delete threads like that. I didn't even know someone could troll their own thread. Here's to you kid.

My thoughts on Tyson? Sure, I think he's an asshole because when you watch his videos and listen to what he has to say, I believe he comes off as an arrogant pseudo scientist that is mad at the world because of how he views himself and how his life turned out. He doesn't seem to have the open mind he preaches others to attain. There ya go Bilbo.

Science does not exist as it is advertised.

It is like TedxTalks... They want all the new ideas so they can edit, as they did with Jim Vieira's amazing work on megalithic sites in the states and the inconvenient truth of giant skeletons and a giant civilization.

You can't find it, though you can still find one of his presentations... It is all about controlling consciousness... Everyone knows this by now...

In a world where the amount of information is infinite, science is just a poem of contrivance... Like evolution... Fossils supposed to be 200 million years old when soil erosion at feet per thousand years would mean none should exist... Bogus.

Antigravity, anyone? Former head of skunkworks Ben Rich said they already have the tech to take et home... Why don't we see it then? My guess is some Divine law that would force tptb to empower all of us if they did... And so instead we are on course for "end times" fun...

Apparently it is quite predictable.

Check out his podcast "star talk radio” excellent mix of science and comedy.
You can also find it on the nerdist channel on youtube.

He/star talk radio, does live shows in NYC, one is coming up on the 27th.

Oh and he is hosting the new cosmos series on fox this year, A remake from early 80s hosted by Carl Sagan.

You can blame religion. Too many people are focused on the end of the world, the Rapture, etc... The preachers fill people's mind with this 'end of the world' garbage because it helps to fill collection plates.
People have less interest in science because they have lost hope in the future.
