Don't want to start a flame war, but if you seriously think that we want to go to Mars to flex our ego, you're fucking retarded. It has nothing to do with ego, it's about the discovery of the history of mars. What it was like millions of years ago, where created all these dried up rivers, what's under the surface... how deep does one have to go under the ground to be protected from the intense solar wind that hits the surface... Is there stuff that LIVES under the surface? Is there ground water?

There's countless questions that could be answered by visiting Mars. If you can't see the enjoyment, the advancement in technologies, the possibility to expand to living on foreign worlds.. How can you not see that as cool? Perhaps you're content with what we know, and you don't care for anything that we don't know. People like you is what's holding back sciences from exploding and making huge life changing discoveries.

To answer upon the points you've made about humans never exploring space...
A) This might be true, but that's something that *I THINK* would be wonderful. Sure it probably won't happen in our live times, because people are greedy, ignorant, and arrogant about their understand of "how things work".
B) Right, we need massive amounts of energy to make exploration possible, but if we sit here and argue of it's importance, it'll never happen. Can you be satisfied with knowing that because we're too stubborn to try to create these things? Why can't we just work together and make life better for everyone?



There's practically UNLIMITED resources in space we could solve the whole money crisis with the resources from space. We could make money something of the past, if everyone had everything, what purpose would money have?

Put simply, nature gave you two brain halves. One half contains the functions of logic & deduction, while the other half contains the functions of intuition & pattern recognition.

It takes the use of both brain halves to see the univers fully. Science only adheres to one half. So science will never get it right unless it reinvents itself.

My thoughts on Tyson? Sure, I think he's an asshole because when you watch his videos and listen to what he has to say, I believe he comes off as an arrogant pseudo scientist that is mad at the world because of how he views himself and how his life turned out. He doesn't seem to have the open mind he preaches others to attain. There ya go Bilbo.

Oh and he is hosting the new cosmos series on fox this year, A remake from early 80s hosted by Carl Sagan.

You can blame religion. Too many people are focused on the end of the world, the Rapture, etc... The preachers fill people's mind with this 'end of the world' garbage because it helps to fill collection plates.
People have less interest in science because they have lost hope in the future.
