SPAIN'S CATALONIA REGION HAS JUST DECLARED INDEPENDENT SOVEREIGNTY FROM SPAIN
[link to www.presstv.ir]

Europe breaks up...bound to happen....will send the world into the next 'great recession' (or depression)

In American football, there's a concept best described as "fatiguing the defense"....where the opposing team's offense is so good...that the defenders finally get overwhelmed.

We are fast approaching this point with global govts and the rotten carcass of the Cold War, pre-Internet economy they seem bound & determined to keep propped-up.

Catalonia's parliament approved a declaration of sovereignty

The proclamation defines the province of northeastern Spain as "legal and sovereign political entity" and start the road to self-determination

Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 14:12

The move was celebrated by the provincial president of Catalonia, Artur Mas (left), driver of Catalan sovereignty (AFP).

(CNNMéxico) - The Catalan Parliament approved on Wednesday a declaration of sovereignty that allows you to start a process for implementing the right of self-determination of the Spanish province through a referendum.

The Declaration of sovereignty and the right to decide the people of Catalonia determines "begin the process of realizing the right to decide for citizens and citizens of Catalonia can collectively decide their political future", according to a Reuters report.

The declaration defines Catalonia, in northeastern Spain, as a "legal and sovereign political subject," and was approved by 85 votes in favor and 41 against (63% support of the Catalan Chamber) with the support of nationalist groups, independence and smaller.

The socialists and conservatives rejected the measure on the grounds that it contravenes the Spanish laws.

The text includes a commitment that "will speak and negotiate with the Spanish government, the European institutions and the entire international community", according to EFE.

Approval was held by the regional president of Catalonia, Artur Mas, one of the main drivers of Catalan independence struggle.

In the path traced by Mas for independence, as endorsed by the Parliament (legislative Catalan name) should be followed by a regional referendum, but this query is not covered by Spanish law, according to which only the king has the ability convene a legal consultation.

The independence struggle in this region was revived last September 11 during the annual celebration of National Day or Day of Catalonia. The rally, driven by nationalist sentiment, took to the streets to Catalans 1.5 million (20% of the population) who called for self-determination.

Given the massive demonstration, Mas promised to find the separation Catalan and starred in a confrontation with the Spanish prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, a new financial agreement with the central government. Mas separatist reiterated his commitment after the defeat of his party in elections legislative late November.

Analysts said the struggle for independence of Catalonia has worsened due to the economic crisis in Spain. Unemployment in the province increased from 17.98% to 27.95% in the last two years.

The Catalans sovereigntists charge that the gap in provincial finances deficit is due to a negative from the resources provided to Spanish unity and receiving back. Financing in Spain is designated based on population. According sovereignists, Catalonia accounts for 20% of the Spanish economy, while the demographic proportion reaches only 16%, a difference that the Catalan government estimated at 16.409 million euros (nearly 175,000 million pesos).

The Catalans ask the Spanish government financial treatment similar to the Basque Country and Navarre, two communities with a special system that allows them to raise their own resources without waiting for the Spanish redistribution.

Before separatist attempts, the Association of Spanish soldiers said they could be forced to ensure the "indissoluble unity of the nation" through a military deployment.

"I hardly think that ... if there is a majority of Catalans in favor of a query is sent to 50,000 soldiers and suspend its status as autonomy (Catalonia)," said Joan B. CNNMéxico academic Culla i Clara, Professor of Contemporary History at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. "If the tanks arrived to Catalonia, the next day we would be independent"

Secession is in the air.

White House Rejects Texas Secession Petition

Wednesday, 16 Jan 2013 07:48 PM

Despite a White House rejection, supporters of a petition signed by more than 100,000 people continue to forge ahead with a petition allowing Texas to secede from the U.S.

Supporters of the petition, the Texas Nationalist Movement, met with Republican leaders last week, The New York Times reports. The group wants Texas to sever its federal ties and become an independent nation, the newspaper reports.

The officials included Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.

The Texas Nationalist Movement also rallied on the steps of the state Capitol on the first day of the legislative session and visited lawmakers seeking support for a referendum on the secession issue.

The group’s president, Daniel Miller, met with Dewhurst for about an hour.

“We had a lengthy discussion about the U.S. Constitution, the Texas Constitution and the future of Texas,” Miller told the Times. “He was cordial and engaging on the issues with which we are concerned.”

A spokesman for the lieutenant governor, Matt Hirsch, said that Miller was among several constituents who met with Dewhurst on the first day of the session — but that as a proud veteran, Dewhurst believed in preserving and protecting the Union.

The Obama administration rejected secession petitions from residents of Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and five other states, the Times reports. The Texas petition, with 125,746 signatures, said that withdrawal was “practically feasible” since the state had a balanced budget, according to the paper.

The director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, Jon Carson, wrote the Texas group, saying that free and open debate was good for democracy — and cited some of the legal arguments against secession, including an 1869 Supreme Court ruling that found that individual states did not have a right to secede.

“Our founding fathers established the Constitution of the United States ‘in order to form a more perfect union’ through the hard and frustrating but necessary work of self-government,” Carson wrote, according to the paper. “They enshrined in that document the right to change our national government through the power of the ballot — a right that generations of Americans have fought to secure for all. But they did not provide a right to walk away from it.”

I had to pin this one myself.

This is what we should do here in our own government.

Declare our Independence, abolish them, their debt, their banks and their corporate masters, confiscate their left over wealth, and start a new.

Re: SPAIN'S CATALONIA REGION HAS JUST DECLARED INDEPENDENT SOVEREIGNTY FROM SPAIN
As a former resident of Madrid, and a self-avowed Iberophile, and one who has traveled extensively throughout the country of Espan~a, I am actually happy to see this!

Catalonia has for a very long time wished for independence. The language, Catalan, is not a dialect of Castillian Spanish (known as the "proper" Spanish) but is indeed its own language outright!

Here is to hoping that Euskadi, aka el paid Vasco, aka The Basque Country will finally secede and establish its own nation, as well.

The Basque Country is so unique, and is an amazing place, untouched mostly from the overwhelming tourist-traps and over-development that most of the best spots in Europe (and of course, the U.S.) suffer from.

San Sebastian, aka Donostia is pure heaven on Earth!

The people are fiercely independent, and imntbho, they should be!

The Basque language, Euskera, is so linguistically unique, there is no other language like it in the entire world! It is nothing like Spanish, it is neither a Romance language, nor a Germanic language.

The food is amazing, the people are beautiful and intelligent and hearty and strong and kindly.

The Basque country was never conquered by the Roman Empire!
Consider *that*!!!
