I am really concerned that he will just walk into office. I'd like to hear some real policy from him, but see above about my opinions on voting. One thing on PE though. how well would e be doing if we kept PertoCan. Lotta revenue there these days.

The dominate glp culture is definitely politically divisive, blaming all evil on 'the left', forgetting that those parameters were put in place by tptb.
There is also a huge anti-women, racist,rabidly religious culture here as well.

This statement makes sense, i would imagine its very hard to find a liberal that can or will discuse anything without hate and ridicule..............even towards another liberal so it is easy to understand why your looking elswhere for a civil debate.

I find the left oriented people are more compasionate, which makes them blind to the supposed right attitude that people have worked hard to get what they have weather that's wealth or rights. If you work for something you should keep it.

I think that the main difference in perception of left and right in US and Canada is the population. You need less rules to have a society when there is only 10% of the population. It's like our medical. I can't see the sense in the way Obama is doing things, tying it into existing insurance. If you are going to have universal medicare, it can't be for profit. It wont work. The problem with all of our social safety net is that it takes the most percentage wise from the lower middle class. your way better off making 15000 a year in Canada than 22000. Which takes away the incentive to work hard. I get that part. But even paying more, I wouldn't want to get rid of it.

Well, what makes you say they don't have an equal opportunity? What would make things even in your mind? Equal opportunity doesn't mean equal results, and everyone will succeed.

As a child, I grew up at what you might call the bottom, I realized I DID have opportunity. Much more so than if I was born in any other country, so I took advantage of the opportunity.

I think many stay at the bottom because the opportunity in front of them isn't always the easiest road. So they don't take the first steps. They wait around for something to come to them, end up in poverty and blame the system.

IMO

Look at the scholarship system. You have a way better chance to get a university education by being an athlete than by having academic prowess. Student loans lock you into debt for life. Lots of people at the bottom work hard, but cant realize their full potential because they lack capital. Education should be earned but not cost you six figures. If you come from a moneyed family you have access to way better education than a poor family attending public school. If you quit school at 16 to support your family statistically you will remain poor.

These examples can be seen as problematic by some, some of those are products of peoples choices. None of these examples though are a flaw in capitalism.

Can't get a scholarship, attend a community college then transfer. Student loans are soo high because the government got into the loan business(not very capitalist if you ask me)

If you drop out at 16 to support a family, it's a personal choice you made to A) have a family and B) drop out.

I meant that one would drop out to support their parents and siblings out of necessity. The capitalist system means that those university's that can attract the best profs can charge the most for attending. That's Ok but would it be such a sufferance to the populous in general to reduce the cost of education so it was universally affordable? You would have more hard working people getting educated and breaking the cycle of poverty.
