Yeah, it's getting crazier and crazier out there.

We pulled out 10 years ago, one of the best decisions we ever made. It's tough at first as the kids adjust but given the choice now they choose to be home. There is so much less stress for everyone. Socially you can't really tell that much difference from their public school friends except that they are way more independent thinking.

Lots and lots of online schools or complete computer curriculum make it pretty easy. My kids do in 4 hours what takes their friends 8 or more, but still score high on standarized testing. I just had one graduate and he had no problems getting into college.

Oh, and my reason for pulling out in the first place was the school was pushing me to put my kid on Ritalin. I said no freakin' way. Did some research and found a way to teach him that worked for him, without the meds.

I just have to 100% convince my husband... I should have done it when the same principal felt it was okay to have my younger son removed from class to sit in her office when I refused to treat him for 'ADHD.' If you think 6 year old boys should be seen and not heard, you shouldn't't work at an elementary school!

I want to homeschool but I'm not the most patient person so it worries me a little. I would hate to fuck them up anymore than necessary lol

That principle is a ratard. I don't know a 6 year old that concentrates very well. Kids are kids simple as that.

I would suggest homeschooling now that you mention. "Hey, why is that 8 year old kid in trouble with the law?" "For being sick." And my family was recently talking about how a student being out sick I counted as an unexcused absence unless you have a doctors note, people are supposed to go to the doctor for every illness? Is it me or are schools turning into nazis?

And just wait till homeschooling isn't an option anymore. Not surprising to me if kids and their parents are getting in trouble with the law for missing school while sick.

That's crazy...I have a seven year old who missed like 4 days of school recently due to being sick as well. I have never heard of anything like that.

I'm the type of chick that would have went down and had a nice chat with the principal...and yes if that continues I would be thinking about home school too. Hmm...what state are you in OP?

I just don't see how anyone can look themselves in the mirror and not hurl for throwing their kids to the wolves of the government indoctrination camps. It is beyond shameful. I would rather rent a one-bedroom $300/month apartment for my family of 6 and home school than have a respectable house and career and let the state brainwash them daily. If you think you can counter-act the 6+ hours a day of the Marxist, godless, pro-gay, anti-family, anti-value system of Satan you are sadly mistaken.
That's just my two cents though, I am sure most of you all see it differently. Thank God they haven't tried to force us into it yet, as I will gladly give my life in order to keep my kids out of their sick pedophiliac hands.

After they got the hang of it, they pretty much just do their school without much input from me unless they get stuck or have a question. A lot like you do with homework.

At first, my oldest (stubborn kid) pushed back a lot and dragged his day out. I just said no TV, games or visiting friends until school was done. It didn't take long lol

Lots of benefits too - they get sick less, we take our school on the road, vacation in the off season, etc.

And I received a call yesterday (automated) from the I district noting my daughter had 5 unexcused absences and if she missed another day, a social worker may be called. She just turned 7.

And you know what they can do? Shove that social worker right up their asses. One more year of public then it's off to a private school where my other two are.

Most people, myself included, grew up with public school as the 'norm.' I have pulled myself out of that indoctrinated thinking, but a lot of people just do it because its all they know. I have a strong desire to homeschool and my career right now is my kids so I don't have anything to give up. I just don't know how to overcome my own impatience and lack of confidence. Thanks for making me feel like an asshole though ;)

WTF is wrong with these people?! Criminalizing kids and law abiding citizens... It scares the shit out of me to think about what might be coming.

That right there!!!! Don't think it won't happen. And not meaning to ramble on to the gun control topic, but this is an example of why the 2nd amendment should not be infringed upon. The amendment is to protect the people from the government, and yes, that would include assault rifles.

Don't feel bad, I was the same way. It was still so new, people looked at me like I had 3 heads. But there are over 2 million doing it now, and lots of groups that get together for field trips and get group rates at museums and such.

Cobb county. Georgia. And this is one of the most conservatives counties in the state. I received the same call last year... Kindergarten. I'm assuming its meant more for the parents who are neglectful and have issues, but it still gets under my skin, and...... Does kinda scare me. :( social worker?

I totally agree with this. We have many guns and will fight to protect our 2nd amendment rights. Chances are, my homeschooling curriculum will include them learning to grow vegetables, milk goats, and shoot guns lol. Skills I'd teach them anyway, but might be necessary before long :\ these are scary times we live in

Well, it's state by state now, but yeah, I expect it will come down the pipe sooner or later. We can't have those kids thinking for themselves or having parents think they know more what's best for their kids than the gubmint.

6 days first term, 3 last. 9 total. 14 is the max. Why would I make this up?
