One in four Americans believes God influences which team wins a sports gameIt suggests that, while Ravens and 49er fans across the country are willing their teams to win the Super Bowl this Sunday, a significant portion of the country believes they had better get praying.
And it is a show of faith that might be seen this Sunday; Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis has regularly thanked God as his team battled to the Super Bowl.
After defeating the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship, he said: 'God doesn't make mistakes. He's never made one mistake. God is so amazing.'
And among other players, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, has religious wording on tattooed on his body; one psalm is visible beneath his jersey on his shoulder.
'The first one I got was Psalm 18:39, a scroll on my right shoulder,' he has said of his tattoos. 'The verse is, "You arm me with strength for battle. You make my adversaries bow at my feet".
