Not. I know for a fact that the castle doctrine in texas allows you to kill someone to prevent them from further destroying your property...

I am not pro-vandalism, but there are better ways to handle this...

I don't know.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31557420

I wouldn't want to use that kind of force on anyone over something like vandalism myself and probably not even any sort of theft. Just wouldn't be worth having to go through the process and deal with the aggravation.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32599202

you're concerned with process and aggravation? What about living with the fact that you took another human's life over some graffiti??

Look, I may not be all wound up over how precious human life is but I agree that using deadly force in that scenario would be excessive. I wouldn't feel comfortable with it. That aside the process, aggravation and having to sort it all out would be a pain in the ass. Just look at what that fellow in south Texas that made national news who shot two burglars exiting his neighbors house and what he had to go through. He was cleared but the process cost him time, money, media scrutiny and he was for days uncertain as to his fate. That was the point I was making.

Graffiti is ugly, promotes crime, hurts property values etc.. I see no problem with the tagger getting 8 years.

Day for day for 8 years is a little much for a little paint.

8 grand worth of damage? Those painters raped those businesses.

Graffiti leads to Marijuana, which causes "Reefer Madness".

Once someone with diagnost "Reefer Madness", get's the itch,..... they start Shooting Herion.

Proof that Marijuana is a Gateway drug.

That Judge most likely just saved that "Graffiti "Tagger" from a life of Severe Drug Addiction

Make him personally clean up the mess he made. Eight years is outrageous, both for the crime and for the cost to the taxpayer.

I believe the judge believes she is in Mexico , where they throw people in prison and forget about them.

They are guilty until they can afford to pay for a trial to prove their innocent.

This is the kind of shit we get paying for these peoples college degree's with government grants.

what a bitch judge. he is just beginning is adult life and now he's going to spend the first 8 years of it in prison. how utterly fucked up. yea, graffiti is annoying and a financial pain to fix but they should've just made the kid paint/clean it and slap him with community service.

judges like this one make this world worse. that kid is going to hate the system, the government, police, and probably the entire country for the rest of his life. what a waste of money and time.

8 years to a kid for that?
police "worked hard" to catch this kid?
someone needs to help this kid, AND at the same time put that cop and judge in for his sentence, then 1 year for every life they have wrecked.

this whole thing is so fucked up i want to doubt that it is real.

THAT IS NOT JUSTICE

$7000 of damage, and 8 years back to back no parole.

people get away with crazier shit than that everyday.

poor kid

no crime there.
 Quoting: s. d. butler

Unfortunately it is in Texas; in the video the judge said 3 felony mj charges which is probably what made the sentence so unreasonably long. Judge does appear to be a real tight-ass. Maybe she's running for another office or gets a kickback from the local privately owned prison.

I really hate these little shits who spray their moron tags over everything, they ruin whole neighborhoods and cause endless misery to residents.

But 8 yrs of being a colossal burden to tax payers and then coming out a hardened criminal - jeezus what the hell is wrong people - this kid needs to be confronted with some of his victims so they can give him a tongue lashing and or a beating - he needs to be made to feel the guilt shame and fear of what he has done to other people.

That's fucking bullshit. The worst he should be dealing with is community service and having to re-paint the areas he trashed, along with restitution to repay the damage. My guess is, he tagged someone's property who has power or influence and they got butthurt.

Someone should set up a legal fund for this kid. Sure, he's a piece of shit. But that's a completely unreasonable sentence.

7,000 = 8 years in prison?

That's a little extreme. I agree he should pay for the vandalism but taking away 8 years of someone's life? That definetly falls under cruel and unusual punishment.

Are you familiar with the arguments that tie Singapore's low crime rate to their high abortion rates and aggressive sterilization programs? That's some controversial stuff:

[link to furrybrowndog.wordpress.com]

Most importantly, the anti-natalist policies in Singapore were specifically targeted at low-income and lower-educated groups, which are recognised as demographic groups more likely to turn to crime. Meanwhile as Singapore’s crime rate fell throughout the 1990s and 2000s, so too did its fertility rate, in part ensuring crimes would stay low decades in the future.
