Poll shows Granite Staters strongly favor 'assault weapons' ban, full background checks

HENNIKER -- A new poll by New England College found a large majority of Granite Staters favor a ban on "assault weapons" and universal background checks for gun purchases.
The poll conducted Jan. 21 and 22 of 656 registered asked two direct questions:
- Whether "assault weapons" should be banned.
- "Do you support the idea of universal background checks for gun purchases?"
The first question contained no specific explanation of an "assault weapon," according to NEC spokesman Scott Spradling.
"It is a broad poll question, but we are confident people know and understand the definition of an assault weapon," Spradling said.
The poll showed 72 percent favored and 24 percent opposed an "assault weapons" ban and that 88 percent favored and 10 percent opposed the idea of universal background checks.
According to the poll, men favored an "assault weapons" ban, 64 to 34 percent and women favored it, 80 to 16 percent.
"New Hampshire voters show surprisingly strong support for these gun control moves," NEC poll director Dr. Ben Tafoya said in a statement.
"There are deep and lasting effects on the public from the heightened level of sensitivity toward these issues in light of the tragic shootings in Newtown, CT," Tafoya said.

"Majority of Granite Staters." Are you kidding? 656 likely-liberal respondents represent the majority of the population in the state? Bend over everyone. You're next.

The comments following the article will offer a far more accurate position of the average NH citizen. Perhaps the director of the poll earned his doctorate degree at Occidental College.

Re: BREAKING: NH Supports Feinstein W/Least Scientific Poll In History
Obama tipped us all off when he said something to the effect of taking action according to what "the people" want. The minister at Feinstein's circus parroted the same statement earlier today: "During the prayer, Hall asked God to 'bless our elected leaders with the wisdom and the courage needed to bring about the changes that the people demand.' " And incidentally, has anyone noticed how religious are leaders have become recently? Particularly favoring Christianity, or their version of it? I wasn't aware Feinstein followed the Apostles (or even knew much about them). Obama? His call to prayer in flawless Arabic speaks for itself. And the remainder of these creatures we refer to as our leaders: Can reptiles find religion?

I consider this to be a pretty serious matter, skewing statistics for the sake of leveraging a Constitutional issue. Who's the coward that 1-starred me?
