well...judging by the sat pics...the discoloration of the ground is a couple of things...the earth has shifted there due to an earthquake or explosion...and what whatever exploded released alot of heat to cause moutain rock to turn that light a color.

How about a more real world example. Adult material. You should find a crater and most vehicles will show damage that is the result of force being applied from above the vehicle that is why all the roofs are caved in. No need for space, lob a bomb up high and have it power up on it's way down. Even Russia can't stop that kind of projectile, they can track it from launch point so that is the area they would blow up very quickly.
