I lived in Newtown for over 10 years

the places he mentions, the specifics are things locals would know

I'll ask him a few questions only locals would know:

what is the favorite ice cream place everyone goes to in Bethel in the summer

what is the name of the German beer hall on the way out of Newtown into Bethel on Rte 6...or the name of that kennel right past it

what is the name of the bargain store over by the Big Tall Men's store...when you cross into Danbury by the Walmart

This story, as written, comes off as an embellished fictitious narrative if you ask me. Why were so many irrelevant details provided that hold no significance to the overall point of relaying this story?

Why was the following information included when it's completely irrelevant:

- what cereal OP had for breakfast?
- that OP works at a restaurant?
- distance between the Senior Center & firehouse?
- the name of the artist & song that was playing on the radio before the broadcast was interrupted?
- the name of the gas station and the type of drink OP was purchasing?

I get the impression these details were added to give a false impression to the audience that the storyteller has an incredible memory and if he/she can remember all these little irrelevant details about the day, then he/she must also remember the other details correctly and must therefore be a credible witness/reporter of what happened that day.

Additionally, why does Caraluzzi's market have a police scanner running in the back? OP said he was there talking to 'Dave' one second when they heard the helicopter, then he says 'Dave' came from the back of the store with the details of what the police scanner was reporting? That sounded weird to me.

It was also rather strange/odd that OP was trying to relay what the DJ allegedly said over the radio but did so from the perspective of a 1st person narrative:

"I called my wife because she works at Newtown Middle School and she said they weren't on lock down and haven't heard anything about an incident. So it appears information has been mixed up. We need to get our stuff together before they tell me to report"

Normally, when you are discussing what a 3rd party said or did, you would speak from that perspective and use words like 'He/She said', etc.- not switch to a first person narrative.

I get the impression OP is looking for attention and decided to write-up a creative but fictitious narrative surrounding this popular story. I know if I had experienced something similar and wanted to relay my story, I would never have told it in this manner with all the irrelevant details & embellishment. Just straight & pertinent facts and to the point (heart of the matter) with no bullshit in between. I certainly would not have gone out of my way to try and prove where I live with all these little details about the area, especially after prefacing my story with, "I will post no proof that I actually do live here"....

Easy way to prove/disprove the authenticity of this story would be to call Caraluzzi's and ask for 'Dave' and ask him if he's got a police scanner 'in the back'. Although nothing earth-shattering was provided by this story so most would see doing so as a waste of time.

also asking this ^^ because have read so much, followed so much--it's confusing. i have read about the woman helped or lead away from the school who claimed to be a nurse, saying the shooter was a son of a teacher, whom she described as "the nices person" or whatever, but then later it was always said this lady was not the school nurse at all. The school nurse came out later (hid for four hours in the supply closet) and was interviewed the next day, looking refreshed and none the worse for wear.

I have continued to wonder who the first lady was and why she provided misleading information about the shooter and his relationship to the shcool.

I actually looked at the line of kids being lead away and the cars and dumpsters behind them seem to match up very well with the aerial footage of the lot. I looked at the FBI female leading the children in the quintessential SH Kids photo, and the make, model, colors do match the heli vids of the lot.
