4.1 Earthquake in Eastern Texas | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 31781644 United States 01/25/2013 08:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just using my perception of issues currently going on. I have heard that eastern Texas is linked up with those salt domes and whatever in LA. Or, the domino effect of that whole area. Whatever it is, it's not good and it seems to be getting worse. this 4.1 a very bad sign. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23794435 It's 200 to 400 ft of clay and sand over salt pillows. There are several fault lines in Texas. Main one runs along hwy 35 San Antonio through Dallas to the northeast. Earthquakes do happen here, several times a year. This is nothing out of the ordinary. |

Quoting: M-Class 25 I live here in E. Teaxs I did not feel it, but it was closer to where my mom lives (further East Texas), I think that is why. They are drilling and have been drilling all around her, that can add to the problem. Last Edited by NZREva on 01/25/2013 10:01 AM |

I concur. I saw a map today outlining what you speak of. If the whole dome collapses, say goodbye to Houston and San Antonio, not to mention the rest of the south. I'd like to take a look-see at that. Do you have a link to the map? You never change things by fighting the existing reality. The soil in San Antonio/Austin is quite a bit different from that of east Texas. The hill country is rock/limestone over that way, unlike here where it is clay/gumbo. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 26165384 United States 01/25/2013 12:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Are the US Strategic Oil Reserves in that line? [link to www.fossil.energy.gov] The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is the world's largest supply of emergency crude oil. The federally-owned oil stocks are stored in huge underground salt caverns along the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico. snip The Gulf of Mexico was a logical choice for oil storage sites. More than 500 salt domes, known to be an inexpensive and secure means of petroleum storage, are concentrated along the coast. Also, the Gulf Coast is the location of many U.S. refineries and distribution points for tankers, barges and pipelines. In April 1977, the government acquired several existing salt caverns to serve as the first storage sites. Construction of the first surface facilities began in June 1977. |

[link to en.wikipedia.org] [link to www.lib.utexas.edu] The Balcones Fault is easily seen from San Antonio north through Austin and up to Waco. Large limestone cliffs along the rift are areas where the fault uplifted and exposed the rock beneath. One good example is the Lover's Leap in Cameron Park along the Brazos and Bosque Rivers in Waco. Holldoll User ID: 24459229 United States 01/25/2013 12:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Southern OK, and didn't feel anything here, I'm about an hour and a half from Dallas. I was in surgery on the 23rd so I didn't feel that one either, but I was out like a light. I do live in the country and they are fracking about 3 minutes from my house, but not directly on my land. It's been crazy to hear drilling and booms all over since 2011. As soon as they finish drilling in one spot they move on to the next one. |

Anyone else feel it? Don't know if it was a quake or not. We get a lot of booms around here but this was a real rattler! "When government fears the people there is liberty.
