consider this: if all your connections are encrypted in the way this moron envisions (using his apin which has severly limited use), they will all be traceable. encrypted communications start with authenticated communications, before any confidentiality can be applied. there are other ways, but they are not widely in use - and they are not what he is proposing.

The only thing that I see wrong with his privacy model is that he recommends using Google Chrome because that is the only browser capable of doing large uploads without failing.

Google is a CIA asset so they can monitor your uploads and downloads through the browser, regardless of whether you are encrypting the data at the destination.

KD does not yet know how deep the rabbit hole is. Once he does he will offer a more secure option. May I suggest direct connection through FTP or develop his own browser.

Totally agree ( I'm not aware of technical details - just as a level of idea), if the end user is not controlling the encryption, it's keys and the algorithms, in this case, the party which will control this process, will be able to give other parties access, if it wants to (or for right amount of $$$).

This is like, put your goodies in my bank vault, then hand me the keys to your locker.

There is only one big problem with that. Some gov'ts are way ahead of the curve when it comes to computing power. Encryption can easily be broken by agencies like en. ess. ey. So when you encrypt all you are doing is putting up a red flag to look at your shit.


i suggest lower tech, less obvious methods of obfuscating your data. but it's gotta be a clever technique that doesn't look like an encoded message.

yes and no. it's also easier to hide in the masses, if everybody starts using encryption for storage and communications. the problem is widespread use of authentication, even if it remains largely pseudonymous.

i wouldn't worry about governments being ahead of the curve when it comes to computing power: cryptography is essentially just linear algebra; when a cryptographic transform doesn't suffice anymore, it is because of a increase in computation power, or increase in mathematical knowledge (mainly statistical attacks). newer modi of existing transformations, or newer algorithms are usually available on time.

only when a government has either working quantum computers (with a binary interface) or a mathematical magic bullet (solving primes, p=np, ...), you need to worry.

there are plenty of free cloud providers these days. it's easy to hook up your own filesystem to them. this gives you flexibility: you do the crypto yourself, you do the striping and parity yourself, you hold the keys and the interface... in some other thread about fatso kimble, someone mentioned tahoe-lafs, which would be excellent for such setup.
