Re: Prescribed an antibiotic (cipro) and its has screwed me up
i've slowly "snorted" then gargled a mild solution of warm distilled water & non-iodized sea salt for a quick cure of sinus problems, too: having read of this method years ago in Shirley MacLaine's biography (that's a good book). I use a styrofoam disposable coffee cup or a dixie cup to treat myself (it's boring staying at home being sick! talk about something to look forward to! watch the clock!) rather than taking it from the spout of a neti pot. IMHO that's wise because when the cup is discarded re-infection is avoided plus there's no sterility maintenance or question about where to keep it or worry it might get mistaken for a teapot. I mean, not being a neatfreak or a dirty-minded OCD germophobe - but seriously have you ever wanted to puke from observing a dusty dirty neti pot sitting on a shelf closeby someones toilet in their bathroom? It's like leaving festering petri out in the open. Wondering how long it's been sitting there since the last flu ... did they clean it after the last use? And is that thing put in the dishwasher with the dishes or just rinse it with hot tap water when it's used?

^^^^Glad you bring this up about neti pots harboring sometimes serious bacteria.

Wise of you to use clean one-use container.

Re: Prescribed an antibiotic (cipro) and its has screwed me up
It is likely your physiology. Everyone's is different.

Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) is a very effective drug. I took it several times, once for a period of over six weeks, to kill a particularly nasty gram-negative (Pseudomonas) bacteria. I had zero side effects from it.
Started with Septra DS, but didn't work too well; when I stopped taking it, the bug (and symptoms) returned within a couple of weeks.
Amikacin is/was actually more effective than Septra (against this particular bacteria), but it can make you deaf.

Tell the doctor to culture the bug, and determine what it's sensitive to.

Once the course is over, replace a couple of meals with live yoghurt. Do this on a regular basis to get the bacteria in your gut.

I had all sorts of muscle cramps, joint stiffness and belly aches. Yeast!

You can also use sauercraut or kimshee, for pro biotic.

And if you do not mind my asking, why are you being prescribed Antibiotics anyway?

Why didn't you let it run its' course(scuse' the pun)instead?

Must remember that the Human Body is incredible at fighting infections but the more we take Antibiotics(literally means Anti-Life)the less chance your Immune system has of fighting of the next Infection you encounter.

...

Cipro for a runny nose is ridiculous behaviour - I'd consider suing your GP - It sounds to me like when folks take their Cars to the Garage to have them fixed and the mechanic deliberately sets something else to break for further business down the road - To a Doctor your Body is a cashcow that needs breaking to fix or trial Drugs/Procedures on.

Cipro,

Ffs.
 Quoting: Spittin'Cesium

how exactly does that doctor benefit from prescribing the cipro? the patient is already in the office, and he/she will be paid for the visit. there is no extra payment for the Rx. and how are you diagnosing a runny nose vs a sinus infection via the internet? morons.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31011490

Cipro is a broad spectrum antibiotic. I have to wonder what the doctors know this flu season. 90% of the people I know who have gotten a flu or virus that turns into a sinus or other respiratory infection this season, has been prescribed Cipro. I had a bladder infection last month and my doctor prescribed Cipro. I asked the nurse why an antibiotic that was so potent instead of the usual drugs given and she said because it deals most bacteria that can cause infections.

I find it all strange.

Cipro is not the only antibiotic that can cause the tendonitis etc. issues. Levaquin can have the same side effects.

Also, I saw someone else say something about vitamin D.....good advice.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31698368

I think, for the most part, doctors are just ignorant, and they listen to the pharmaceutical industry too much. If they did their homework, they would realize that these drugs are not good for anyone, and in the long run are VERY harmful.

cipro was not made to treat anthrax. it does happen to treat anthrax. i have been prescribing cipro for almost 20 years. yes, there is the risk of tendon injury, and it causes some 'caffeine' like symptoms, but in general is a very safe and effective antibiotic. i have taken it myself at least 5 times with no ill effects. the tendon and joint pain will go away after off the meds. if you believe all the fear mongering you read on line...well, you are on glp.

Bullshit. Utter bloody bullshit. Cipro and other fluoroquinolones are poison. I was floxed four years
ago and still have problems. Just do a search on "floxed".
There are thousands of lawsuits, many many people disabled.
The idiot docs here in the USA are prescribing it like candy - especially post surgery, without asking or warning patients. An adverse reaction can occur immediately or can take, literally years, so people cannot connect the cause and effect. It's now suspected that the fluoroquinolones are the likely cause of so called fibromyalga. The symptoms
of floxing are also extremely similar to lyme disease. There is a ton of info on the net about this. You can get better but you have to watch your diet...I'm now vegan because if I eat dairy or meat it's likely that it will cause a "flare up" because they use fluoroquinolones in food production, and other chemical additives can cause flare ups. Taking liquid magnesium is essential as well
as a lot of antioxidents.

i thought i read that itwas taken off the market.

The manufacturer says elderly arenot to take it at all because it attacks their tendons, and of course other things.

Many witchdoctors are into euthanasia of the elderly, so watch your family and friends.

Itis very difficult to find a Christian doctor now-a-days.

Catholics arenot Christians: Christians are Christians and Catholics are "Catholics", same with Jews.

I suspect Hindu are ok, but Arab are an unknown to me, other than one, who was an out and out nut, but very sweet and motherly (hewas a man)1rof1

Re: Prescribed an antibiotic (cipro) and its has screwed me up
I started taking it Tuesday night for a sinus infection. Some of the side effects are joint and muscle pain...which I started to get. A popping in my arm and wrist and pain in my arm that I haven't had for years (tendonitis). I read a bunch of information about it and there are yons of horror stories of being being disabeled by, even after 1 pill. I took three. I also causes insomenia and I have tossed and turned trying to sleep for the last 7 hours.

I am in so much pain! The doctor gave me a new antibiodic, Septra DS...I am so scared that Cipro has fucked me up. People are saying it can lead to toxicity. Even the information provided by the pharmacy says side effects can appear months later. Many people are saying they started to get pain and over the next couple days it got worse to where they couldn't walk. It leads to muscle wasting and nerve pain.

I mean even last night I leaned on my arm, plam down and my wrist felt like it was going to break. I am getting shooting nerve pain in my butt and leggs.

Now I can't sleep.

Turns out cirpo was made to treat anthrax. Even PBS wrote an article about how bad it is and that the FDA won't do anything about it.

I am so scared. How can I detox?

1. Get a Chiropractor
2. Use Colloidal Silver as a natural antibiotic (only kills bad bacteria leaving the good ones around)
3. Any time you have an illness that ends in -itis (ie. sinus-itis, cyst-itis, etc. it means its bacteria related. Avoid any dairy products, these will feed the bad bacteria prolonging your disease. So no milk, ice cream, cheese, etc.
4. If, and only IF you need to, using antibiotics which I never do whenever I get sick, you need to replenish your good bacteria with probiotics.
5. Get a lot of liquid in your system to flush it out.

You do all these you will be back to normal in 3-5 days.

I've been doing this for 11 years and have only gotten sick 3 times and when using this, any infections lasted 2-3 days.

Hope it helps bud.

Thank you all for your replies. I am sorry that some of you have has problems with Cirpo. I hope you recover soon. I have had two major surgeries the last couple year, I am 30. I am not new to pain. However, it's still scary to know something that is supposed to make you better can make you so sick. It's really scary not knowing if/when the symptoms will get worse. My legs feel a little better. Last night I had chills and a new fever, but that has gotten better as well. Now hopefully I can get some good sleep.

I did have a Vit D deficiency a while back and had muscle pain from that. The Vit D really helped with the pain. I will pick some up. I have Vit C I have been taking. Someone also said B12 shots can help a lot.

I am allergic to penicillin, amoxicillin, clindamycin, and other medications. In general I am very sensitive to medicine, which makes me wonder why the doctor would risk me taking Cipro. I have had reactions to imitrex and norco as well.

I was prescribed Avelox which is the equivalent of Cipro. I took 2 pills at separate times, they would knock me out for 24 hours each time.

I've put that down as allergic to now.

Have your doctor try Nitro Fur for you. Not as powerful but will do the trick, you just have to be on it a bit longer.

I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering becasue of your trust in the medical mafia. The worshipful company of apothecaries (doctors) care nothing about your health, it's a about that third boat, also if you were well, then lots of quacks would be out of work. Now these doctors are in bed with the worshipful company of barbers (big pharma) to maintain your illness and profit on your early death.

Go see a homeopath in your area. This is the best way to heal yourself as you'll recieve the tools to heal yourself naturally as God intend. Stay way from things made by man as it's unnatural to your natural body.

I go to accupuncture often and I love it. It makes me feel better. I've been at it for about 10 years now and I get aches but nothing that I can't handle. I never take any pills of any kind. I'll eat an organic apple or orange. Drink lots of water.

I'm also a big believer in Chinese herbs. I take it often. It's a long process, but it's worth it. There are over 5000 different plants, herbs, roots, barks, some white stuff, dandilions, grasses. It's bitter as heck, but the body seem to enjoy it.

Don't be afraid..this only accerates the illness. Inform your self. Then your fear will go away. Dr. John Chirstopher is/was one of the best Western herbologist. I was looking for his full length video but it appears to be gone. Clips here and there but can't find the whole video. Good figure.

Hope this helps...take the time and study these things for yourself and never give your power to some quack who only knows how to DRUG it, RADIATE it, or CUT IT OUT!!

There is a wealth of knowledge online. Sit down and start learning!! Good luck and remember that knowledge is power!

Re: Prescribed an antibiotic (cipro) and its has screwed me up
The Food and Drug Administration imposed the government's most urgent safety warning on Cipro, Levaquin, Avelox and many other flouroquinolone antibiotics. The FDA orders a prominent "black box" warning and the development of new literature for patients emphasizing the risks. The most prominent risk is tendon rupture causing long term disability, possibly permanent.

This is an important first step to ensuring these antibiotics are only used when the patient faces a potential fatal outcome, and only after the use of all other antibiotics have been ruled out. This is not due to the probability of risk, but rather severity.

To those who have been affected, prognosis is normally not good. There is no cure. Often repeat exposure through food and water cause a continual never ending cycle of symptoms. Many victims face the fact that their lives have been completely destroyed. Many face loss of job and income, some face breakup of the family. Some have even committed suicide because of the pain inflicted by these drugs.

Take massive amounts of magnesium, both oral and topically as well as ten grams or more of vitamin c a day and grape seed extract. Become a vegan, only eat food from scratch.
Also, green smoothies every day for detox.

Cipro screwed me up too. Ibuprofen helped a LOT with the tendonitis and joint pain.

You will have to avoid exercise for 6 months and make sure to eat a super healthy diet that avoids inflamatory foods... like everything in a package :P

Re: Prescribed an antibiotic (cipro) and its has screwed me up
Cipro screwed me up too. Ibuprofen helped a LOT with the tendonitis and joint pain.

You will have to avoid exercise for 6 months and make sure to eat a super healthy diet that avoids inflamatory foods... like everything in a package :P

Absolutely do not take Ibuprofen or any other NSAID if you've been floxed, it's about the worst thing you can do.

My best friend died at 27 , back in 1992, from Cipro

the stuff is deadly awful. Hundreds of thousands of deaths and devastating side effects like permanent tendon damage and worse... and most everyone knows it, however they can't even get a warning label on that POS

and they want to regulate bullets...but pharmas, no one can even mention the deaths caused by that junk

The two most important supplements you can take if you've
been floxed are grape seed extract and magnesium. Magnesium
citrate is good and magnesium oil that you can rub on sore areas is also excellent.

Respiratory, nose/ears, and bladder symptoms are usually of a fungus nature, and Sulfa should be used. A trusted antibiotic added, because of the bacterial infection, which is caused by blockadge, which is caused by swelling.

The Marshmallow herb (thereare many others) should be used to prevent the swelling in the first place, at the slightest sign of sniffles etc.- or get just plain - nothing added:
guaifenesin from Walmart or any drugstore:

Why didn't you let it run its' course(scuse' the pun)instead?

Must remember that the Human Body is incredible at fighting infections but the more we take Antibiotics(literally means Anti-Life)the less chance your Immune system has of fighting of the next Infection you encounter.

the body can't always fight infections, in fact many people used to die from untreated infections... especially in a place like the sinus cavity that can harbor some pretty nasty bacteria.

Irony is we are thaught to trust the "father figure" in a white lab coat. Why can't we live like this guy??

Li Ching-Yuen who lived to 256!! Funny story, when he was 130 he met a hermit that was over 500 years old!
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

His secret...Keep a quiet heart, sit like a tortoise, walk sprightly like a pigeon and sleep like a dog." These were the words of advice Li gave to Wu Pei-fu, the warlord, who took Li into his house to learn the secret of extremely long life.

Li maintained that inward calm and peace of mind were the secrets to incredible longevity. His diet after all, was mainly based on rice and wine

Again we are thaught that 80 is old.

I'll bet you got an infection because your body is out of whack, as it were. I would recommend going to your local health food store and grabbing some expensive vitamins. I take prenatal vitamins simply because I liked the formula. You don't necessarily have to take prenatals, just do some research. I like Dr. Mercola. He's got a pretty large amount of data all over the internet that I have found to be accurate every time I tried to find contrary evidence. You likely have a massive case of vitamin D deficiency and perhaps some others.

There are also many types of medicinal mushrooms that have numerous benefits. Look up Paul Stamets. Doctors have very very little education in nutrition. They believe pain is caused by an Oxycontin deficiency.

Go to pet store and buy some Fishpen and or FishMox. At 500 mg doses, it is safe for humans with no side effect. Best penicillin and Amoxocillin antibiotics on the market. Good for sinus infections.
