It is likely your physiology. Everyone's is different.
Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) is a very effective drug. I took it several times, once for a period of over six weeks, to kill a particularly nasty gram-negative (Pseudomonas) bacteria. I had zero side effects from it. Started with Septra DS, but didn't work too well; when I stopped taking it, the bug (and symptoms) returned within a couple of weeks. Amikacin is/was actually more effective than Septra (against this particular bacteria), but it can make you deaf.
Tell the doctor to culture the bug, and determine what it's sensitive to.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32822335 Respiratory, nose/ears, and bladder symptoms are usually of a fungus nature, and Sulfa should be used. A trusted antibiotic added, because of the bacterial infection, which is caused by blockadge, which is caused by swelling. The Marshmallow herb (thereare many others) should be used to prevent the swelling in the first place, at the slightest sign of sniffles etc.- or get just plain - nothing added: guaifenesin from Walmart or any drugstore: [ link to www.drugs.com]
