god to me is simply the source.. of all that is.

It's entirely possible. That's classic theology from Paul Tillich. That God is the Ground of our Being. God is the Source from which all Life flows.

But, if God is the Source, then would we not acknowledge God in a manner in which we denote something that is magnificent and hence use a capital G.

For example one can say a truth, or what can look for Truth. In the same way, a deity in a story or myth can be denoted by a god, but the God that is the Source is different.
