to me that looks like a tiny hole in the lens, probably caused by a speck of dust or a micrometeorite hitting the lens, a bit similar to the pattern a bullet hitting glass makes

Astronomy contest time! I will give a free month upgrade to the first person who can correctly answer both parts of this question. What is this AND what specifically is causing it (I'm looking for a proper name here):
[link to farm9.staticflickr.com]
This photograph was taken on March 13, 1955.

It may not seem like this is enough information to answer the questions, but to a resourceful GLP'er there is already more than enough info here to figure it out. The date might seem like a distractor once you have the correct answer, but I put it out there to help you narrow down the possible sources. Have fun. If no one figures out the answer by tomorrow, I'll give a clue on how to find the answer. I was a bit sloppy in putting this together though, so I may have left a bread crum for those who are particularly clever.

I did the same thing. I went to [link to www.worldwidetelescope.org] to explore through the space and noticed that these blue bright objects have these similar image nearby. I would think that the brightness of the objects caused telescope to mess up when capturing pictures.

image artifact?

To obtain better angular resolution, some radio telescopes comprise arrays of dishes spread over a large area so the resolution corresponds to the size of the array rather than the size of the individual dishes (Fig 2). In this way, resolutions even better than that of the the Hubble Telescope are achieved, but only at the expense of extensive data processing, and with the possible introduction of image artifacts resulting from missing area between the individual elements.

I have yet to see a full and correct answer. I'm not just asking what the phenomenon is, but the proper name of what is specifically causing it in this particular case. That requires more digging to confirm.
