Let me make the offer more enticing. I will upgrade you for 3 months if you can identify the exact film plate that this image comes from. Yes, if you do it right it is possible to be specific about that, and it should be part of the solution if you find it without just guessing at it. If however the original question I asked is answered first without this bonus part, this bonus is null and void.

This bonus itself contains a kind of hint, doesn't it?

Not telescope type, film plate, as in the specific film plate identifier.

The film plate identifier is a series of numbers and letters...

No, but let me help people better understand the answer I'm looking for. If this were the correct answer, that would be the first part of the answer and the second part would be who's ghost... Various terms describing the phenomenon of chinese ghosts in general is not what I'm looking for.

I searched SIMBAD and Smisthonian for the numbers that are provided by the picture filename (that means 8414532680 and 9e1151ffe1) but nothing came out.

Astronomy contest time! I will give a free month upgrade to the first person who can correctly answer both parts of this question. What is this AND what specifically is causing it (I'm looking for a proper name here):
[link to farm9.staticflickr.com]
This photograph was taken on March 13, 1955.

It may not seem like this is enough information to answer the questions, but to a resourceful GLP'er there is already more than enough info here to figure it out. The date might seem like a distractor once you have the correct answer, but I put it out there to help you narrow down the possible sources. Have fun. If no one figures out the answer by tomorrow, I'll give a clue on how to find the answer. I was a bit sloppy in putting this together though, so I may have left a bread crum for those who are particularly clever.

*Added Bonus: I will upgrade you for 3 months if you can identify the exact film plate that this image comes from. Yes, if you do it right it is possible to be specific about that, and it should be part of the solution if you find it without just guessing at it. If however the original question I asked is answered first without this bonus part, this bonus is null and void.

LOL! The object of this bit of fun is to highlight the value of good RESEARCH. There is only ONE correct answer and ONE elaborated bonus answer. Vague guesses will not suffice. So far the quality of replies is very telling..

I found the telescope used to create the image astro, but you want to know what the process itself is called?

No, I'm not looking for more and more terms that describe the process, I'm looking for the proper name of what is causing it to happen in this specific case.
