Just imagine a Gold price of $4000 dollars. This would destroy the faith in paper currencys and the system would collapse. They will keep the price of gold as low as possible at all cost! They can manipulate with naked shorting and paper certificates. Don't think that anyone can stop them soon. But the fact that germany demands 700 metric tones of their gold reserves to be shipped back home is just a warning shot. currency wars going on right now. its pretty obvious. japan is devaluating as well.   |

But even then, PM's are easily hidden and a lot would leak through anyhow. It seems to me that other countries would stand to gain significantly if the US were to adopt such restrictions.
