Is the american economy really in good shape now?
I am watching the evening news and top story is the economy making a "astounding" recovery.

Anyone have any figures to show that it is? What's the unemployment rate? When I mean unemployment rate, I mean the number of people that are actively looking for a job compared to the number of people who have given up on looking for a job. Number of people on welfare? Rising? Decreasing?

That is what causes people to go off the deep end. The news lies, flat out lies. Then all the people suffering from the new reality think that everyone else is making hand over fist money and they are being left out.

Yea I don't consider an economy in good shape unless people have a good job that will pay their bills without the help of food stamps, welfare, etc. That's why I am asking for REAL numbers on unemployment and people on government assistance programs.

It seems the economy is considered to be making a recovery when the CEOs are getting their share and stock brokers are making a killing. Which, by the way, the stock market doesn't serve a positive purpose to the world economy. The stock market is worthless to people looking for a job.

Hell yeah.. There's big money in the US. Everyone is chilling living cool comfortable lives.

Heads are all above water. Cash in the bank. Roofs over their heads.

Everything is copacetic. Government is doing a great job. People are happy.

I was just there last week and saw it all. The news is definitely telling it how it is.

In case you haven't realized it the MSM is not your friend.

They are propagandist with an agenda to advance.

Do you see everyone has the job they want? Does everyone you know have an abundance of cash after their bills are paid? Are prices coming down or going up? Where's the confidence level? Are there record numbers of people on food stamps? Why do they need to keep extending unemployment benefits?

Now you tell me... Is the economy really in good shape now?

depends where

where I moved, to Texas, absolutely

in parts of silicon valley absolutely

its on a case by case basis

this is not your grandfather's "recovery"

this is something probably not seen in this country in a hundred years

so it's not an easy answer. very regional

ENERGY is the answer...jmho

You're looking for easy answers. If you want easy answers go to a financial planner. I've been looking in this black hole now for almost 5 years. Personally, I think we are screwed. On net your average person makes less now than someone did back in the 70's adjusted for inflation.

Any statistic you see from the government or some financial guru giving you macro data never accounts for inflation. You need to understand "money", what is, how it comes into being. Our system is basically a credit/debt based system where new money comes into being when our government sells debt. That debt has compounding interest. If you looked at all the debt in existence today there is no where near enough "money" to pay for it all with the interest.

The past "growth" periods of the US were really periods where corporations, individuals and the government took on more and more debt (compounding). When that process stopped in 2008, all the bigwigs panicked because they know their profits are made from people taking on more and more debt. So, they again cheapened credit, central bank zero percent interest rates, which is the rate that commercial banks can get loans from the central bank, the Federal Reserve. They hoped this cheap credit sloshing around in economy would stir up people's "animal spirits" and induce them into buying more stuff with money they don't have (credit/debt).

You don't solve a debt problem by issuing new debt or making it easier for more people to get credit.

Just do some reading on your own, it takes a while to get the jargon but in time it is well worth the effort.

I read some of these blogs daily to learn more and more.

I'm not saying the economy here is in good shape nor do I get my news from the TV anymore. When I do switch the TV on, it seems that they aren't even trying to report real news anymore. They report on what ever gets them the ratings they need. I don't even know what the "official" unemployment rate is anymore because they never talk about it. Like they try to avoid talking about "real" numbers. Then the only people they show are the people working in the stock market and the bankers talking about how good of a recovery the economy is making now.

Who really sees the economy in good shape? I guess its a matter of who you ask.

More likely to see a story about jewish beauty in nazi germany than our corporate media report the truth.
