One would guess development in renewable energy. So why is it that we are still reliant on coal power for our funcking electricity and still driving around in oil powered vehicles when the tech has been there for years just waiting to be developed.

But did you hear we found trillions of dollars worth of oil in Oz so I guess we dont want to spend all that money raised through carbon taxes on alternative energy research now would we. Cause that would make that oil not all that valuable anymore. You know what we deserve to die like rats because our mentality from the top echelon of society all the way to the bottom is fucked.

theres no evacuation orders either,residents of a couple of low lying tidal coastal places

near rockhampton have been advised to move to higher ground if they don't want to

be cut off.

got high tides and storm surge from ex cyclone hit here this morning , nothing compared

to two years ago though.

only one measuring station in the entire country near r ockhampton is showing record rainfall yesterday at 350mm in 24hrs .


im bit further north and we got 500mm in same 24hrs. when it really rains we can beat that in just over an hour.

nah, grew up here... was in the 70's floods, and we we flooded for days .. still got the photos.... mums car actually floated down the street.. lol...

the thing that is worrying is that the premier was making a press conference....

agreed about the one two years ago.. we had to move house as the one we were in was so damaged it started sinking... toilet was two feet off the tiles.. grin....

i'm just sth of bundy, lost my 28ft uhf antenna this morning. Wind was so strong it just buckled it over ffs. My little town will be cut off for a few days faark and i'm short on beer.

Tornadoes hit three Queensland coastal towns

Three tornadoes have ripped through the Bundaberg region this afternoon, injuring 17 people and damaging 150 properties.

The first tornado struck the coastal town of Bargara about 1pm, bringing down powerlines, tearing off roofs and smashing windows. The second tornado hit Burnett Heads, about five kilometres north of Bargara, about 3.30pm, before tracing back towards the suburbs of Bundaberg. Soon after, the sleepy seaside hamlet of Coonar, about 6 kilometres south of Bargara, was hit by a third tornado.

This aint normal. We had that one that hit our city about 12 months ago and there's been several others also. As I was growing up I barely recall a tornado - if at all - ever been mentioned and not with such frequency, and I've been up north here for 40+ yrs.

The one that hit our city, I remember driving through the affected area and thinking holy shit. Got to work and it had passed over our workplace and lifted the roof then dropped it again. It bent several purlins that were about 8 x 2 inches and we found someones side mirror from their car embedded in the roof.

Mini or not I'd rather take my chances with drop bears.

all beaches closed here on the gold coast.. sandbagging is free now and delivered... almost all flights cancelled.. bout to hit in 2-6 hours... 2.5 meter 'swells'... hmm.. there goes the day at the beach....

Sky news just issued possible tornado warnings for Brisbane right now. I have lived here my whole life, tornados do not happen every year in Brisbane fool.

URGENT | *You are requested to SHARE this 10:58am Severe Weather Update | DESTRUCTIVE WINDS & TORNADOES LIKELY, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME between BUNDABERG & TWEED HEADS over the next 12 HOURS.

■ Destructive wind gusts in excess of 125 km/h and further tornadoes are likely between the above mentioned areas (including ALL of the Gold Coast) throughout the day. The Bureau warn that this could cause significant damage or destruction to homes and property in localised areas.

■ Heavy Rainfall that is likely to lead to flash flooding is expected from now until Monday. Six hour rainfall accumulations in excess of 100mm are likely and 24 hour rainfall accumulations may exceed 250mm. This is likely to lead to rapid river and stream rises.

Emergency services have had another extremely busy night with severe weather continuing to impact central and south east Queensland.

The State Emergency Service (SES) received more than 800 requests for assistance in the 24 hours to 5am Sunday, 27 January 2013. More than half of these jobs were concentrated on the north coast area, which stretches from Bundaberg to the Sunshine Coast and inland. Central Queensland was also a focal point for SES response, with more than 160 jobs actioned. There were more than 55 jobs in the Brisbane area and more than 75 in the south east. The most common jobs have been for leaking roofs, roof damage and sandbagging.

Swift water rescue technicians are currently in the water working to retrieve two people from Widgee Creek at Gympie Woolooga Rd, Widgee. Firefighters were called to the job around 4am this morning. Up to 46 people were successfully evacuated by SES and QFRS at Biloela overnight. A number of other swift water and flood boat rescues occurred overnight.

Emergency Alerts were issued overnight for Moreton Bay, Biloela, Benaraby (Gladstone) and Winfield (north of Bundaberg).

Emergency services are urging residents to take care with heavy rainfall expected to continue across Queensland.
