So I'm building a firing range in my apartment. | |

| weasel keeper User ID: 31502767 01/26/2013 02:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here's a tip for indoor shooting noise reduction. take a large cardboard box (about 24"x24"W x 32" deep) and line the walls with 3" or 4" thick polyurethane foam sheets to make a shooting "tunnel", the deeper the tunnel, the more effective it works, it will reduce the muzzle blast by at least half when firing the gun inside inside it. It works great for 9mm & 38/357, I never tried it with 44 mag though, you may need thicker foam walls for that shit, like 6 inches with 4 feet of tunnel. Wild Weasels? You've got to be shitting me! |

After I shot twice I thought I better let people know what I'm doing so nobody is alarmed. Well let me just say, its little wonder that gun activists are so worried. You would think I had just built a nuclear bomb with the way people are reacting. Several people threated to call the police if they hear one more shot. Hell, its not like I'm breaking any laws or anything. And what about those kids with the car stereo so loud? Its not fair they can blast a stereo and nobody says a thing, but I shoot a gun and everyone freaks out. Speaking of the police, I'm calling the police myself because the old lady next door took my daughter inside her apartment and won't let me in or let her out and the neighbors seem to think this is OK? WTH is wrong with people? I can't believe people would act like this. Even on this thread I can see there are plenty of people that clearly think anything "gun" is terrible and bad and that makes me stupid or something. I've got to go for now, but I'll be checking in again once I get everything straightened out here. |

| amachiavellian — a hundredth monkey User ID: 20940257 01/27/2013 12:52 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I recently purchased several new pistols of various types and was anxious to give them a go. It's cold as hell outside and every firing range I've called isn't open. I gave it some thought and decided that there isn't any reason that I can't build a range in my apartment. My apartment complex doesn't have any restrictions on owning guns or noise during daylight hours. So I've dived right in and started to work. Quoting: Nothing is Impossible 32252683 So, to start things off I'll mention why I think a firing range in my apartment is a great idea. My reasoning goes like this. My guns where bought with the intention of using them as home defense weapons. Therefore, what better place to get proficient with them than inside my home? Seriously folks, this is common sense! The Method: Ok, I decided the hallway between the kids bedroom and the living room is the best place to set up. I went out to Lowes and purchased 10 of those bags of play sand and some sheet plastic to lay down to catch sand coming out of the bags. I stacked the bags of sand up on top of each other. This worked pretty good. I have an area that I can shoot the guns into that stands almost 3 feet high and is about 2 feet wide. This will be plenty large enough as none of my shot will be from a distance of more than 20 feet. The Guns: I have 3 different guns here in various sizes and makes. I got 2 of these at the pawn shop and the third one from one of the neighbors before they moved away last month. The gun from the old neighbors is a Bryco Arms 9mm. The two from the pawn shop are a Davis CA380 and a Ruger Blackhawk .44 Remingtion Magnum. I'm off to Walmart now to buy some ammo for the Ruger and the Bryco and some paper targets. When I get back I plan on popping some caps and giving these things a whirl. I plan on taking some plenty of photos of the differnce between how well the guns shoot as well as add comments and whatnot. More to come in a few hours. Don't be afraid to let go. |
