I'ym glad my dog loves the cheapest stuff there is for dog food, Walmart brand please Roy. If i give him anything "higher end," he has issues with digestion. Keeps him happy and healthy for little cost

Our poor kitty passed away from bad cat food during the Chinese Melamine scandal, we switched his food to another but it was already too late and his kidneys failed. :( My sympathies to all pet owners who have had this 100% malicious act occur. We've been feeding our surviving and new cats more natural food like yogurt, cooked chicken and scrambled eggs. Can't afford to do it all the time but at least they get some calories that way.

Crap food.

Love how all these foods are like human food.

Corn
berry's
wheat
rice
potatoes
carrots
Plus poison chemicals.

Cats and dogs don't eat this shit.

To watch the commercials, you'd think that Beneful is the greatest shit ever!

What they don't tell you is that Beneful has a LONG history of making dogs sick.

I had a min pin she was 3 years old and always had tummy issues throwing up off and on for 2 years, the vet never said anything, we fed her Beneful Playful Life for over 2 years. Not knowing and i now i feel awful, i thought it was a good dog food. About 8 months ago she had a seizure one morning, we took her to the vet paid 500$ they gave her anti-seizure meds and said to bring her back in 1 week, that afternoon she had 7 more it was so sad and awful, she had brain damage, and we had to have her put to sleep. I miss my baby Daisy so much, she was the best dog. Now i know, i gotta pitt bull now she eats the best food i can buy her.. Just wanted to share my story....

Re: Dog Owners: Purina Beneful Varieties May be Lethal! It's Happening Again!
Back in October/November (can't remember) I started feeding my two dogs-a Rottie and a 10 year old Jack Russell Beneful Healthy Weight. About 2 weeks later my Jack, Scarlett, started whhimpering one night before we went to bed and didn't want to climb the stairs. She normally shoots up the stairs like a bullet. So I carry her upstairs and lay her on the bed. She starts shaking and crying in the middle of the night. I noticed that her tummy was hard as a rock. Took her outside where she ate some grass and then threw up a little bit of bile shortly afterward. Long story short, we ended up taking her to the emergency vet. The vet xrayed her and said she was mildly constipated but didn't think that explained the pain she was in. They gave her some pain pills and medicine to relieve her constipation (and it sure as heck worked YUCK!). That seemed to do the trick. We immediatly stopped feeding her the Beneful and after a few days of homemade food (chicken, rice etc) she went back to her normal spiffy and playful self.

So yes. I agree. Stay away from the Beneful. It must be full of garbage! Cost me a ton of money too!

Good thread. My pups eat purina little bites and like it.

If I ever found out that purina was the reason my dog died, I would want to drive to purina and kill their CEO and Board of directors.

KIBBLE = Killer, Ingredients, Bad Breath & Less Energy!

Best diet for a dog or cat is raw meat. They have only been eating kibble for 100 years, they evolved eating raw meat.

I changed my dogs over last June, the difference was incredible. They lost all there body fat, have more energy & do not scratch so much. It cut what I pick up after them by about 2/3. I was fortunate 2 find a company that supplies the zoo's with meat, I get a 50# box of meat for $30 & chicken for $25. U may b able 2 find a source like this in ur area.

The next best diet is a cooked meat diet. I also feed them a kibble that is 70% freeze dried meat & 30% vegetable's. The makers of dog food r not required 2 say how much meat is actually in the kibble.

When we ran out of our regular dog food once, my husband picked up a bag of Beneful at the grocery store (think it was the only brand they had at the time) to tide us over until he could go to the feed store. The dogs had MULTICOLOR POOPS from it, nasty nasty...

all these typrs of stor bought foods on your regular grocers are bad for your dogs. dogs do not need grain and the fillers are god knows what. please feed your dog right and they'll be no unusaly vet bills.

With the commercial, pet foods, youare paying mostly for filler, not to mention disease.

The fact veterinarians are always telling everyone to feed their pets the commercial foods should tell you something, like (job security in a feedbag).

Corn is often used as a filler, and you can bet it is GM corn, which has been known or rumored to kill little children.

My dogs like kibble as a snack. Cat food too. But their main diet is cooked meat. They like people food. I try to keep their meals lean but meaty. They get some fat too but not much. They're little dogs (havanese and Chihuahua). They're very happy, healthy and active. I love my dogs. They're excellent friends of mine. I always try to be the best friend I can be to them too.

I also do the kibble snacks & cooked meat now & then, I think there r only a few things dogs can't handle - I know onions & chocolate r bad. I know a couple that feed there dog exactly what they eat for dinner, dog is healthy.

I also found u can feed a dog raw chicken, with bones and all. Cooked chicken bones become brittle, splinter and can choke them.

Thank goodness my dogs don't like that type.

Samantha and Sunflower, my dachshunds, are currently eating a brand that is 100% meat with no grains. With the addition of home cooked food, raw meat, and bones.

Thank goodness they are little dogs. I don't have any disposable income and couldn't afford a bigger dog.

I lost my kitty from the same issue. We had three cats at the time eating the same brand of food. Two of them were fine. The kitty I lost was a Maine Coon and the vet said this type of cat is more susceptable to diseases etc., and would be more susceptable to tainted cat food than other domestic cats. We spent over 2000 dollars trying to save her. The ordeal was the most heartbreaking experience I have ever had with an animal.

Even though two of them survived one of them ended up with cancer and died years later....I believe probably a long term effect of the tainted food.

I went to the site and read peoples complaints and it seemed that the dogs I read about were purebreds. I don't mean that only purebreds are susceptable to these issues, but they seem to be more susceptable than mixed breeds.

This is awful. I sure hope someone stops this mess for once and for all. Cooking your animals own food seems like the only answer until then.

I feed my dogs boiled eggs, shell & all. Apparently, raw egg whites bind to the biotin that a dog ingests and prevents it from being absorbed. Cooked eggs do not do this.
