Interesting theory on this movie.

Like most I found it incredibly boring.
What I found absolutely IRRITATING about it was THE MUSIC or soundtrack.

Its was way too jarring and discordant and unharmonious.

What is your take on the placement of these aural irritations throughtout the movie? Done purposefully and why do you think?

Yes. The music is an important element. It has all the color and flavor of day-old, leftover oatmeal. It is discordant and maddening. That's one of the keys of Monarch training. In fact, it is one of the elements of trauma-based induction.

The music in the sex rite sounds like a 75 year old Catholic priest having his first orgasm to a Sears and Robuck catalogue while in a druken stupor from too much altar wine.

The Muses aren't amused. And neither are we as the audience. We're being put to sleep while having our chest hairs plucked out one by one. Sensory deprivation, color flooding, discordant and disorienting music, etc...these are all the elements that work together to induct the victim into trance, and a bad trip it is too. The doctor gets 'iniated' and so do we as audience members. The difference is that we're a lot more bored than he was. His torments and traumas are not ours. His little petty peep-show lusts annoy me instead of excite me. I would rather have a philosophy discussion on Sartre with the hookers than cavort with them.

It would have been better if Kidman's last trigger word were not 'Fuck', but 'Nap'.

I can only hope Nightingale was put out of his misery.
