'Obamacare' to hit smokers with huge penalties [At least 50% higher premiums for smokers.]

This my friends, is there way to get rid of both cigarette and pot smokers. Brilliant.

This isn't a BammyCare thing....our insurance carrier(for local school dist) started charging a "fee" for smokers back in late 2008.....smokers pay 60.00 more a month.....

This will increase all premiums by at least 50% did you not read? Your $60 a month will increase to $90 then.

And who in society has the highest percentage of smokers? Lower class, lower middle class and minorities.

Under Obamacare, the working poor will already see 25% of their disposable income going to pay for health insurance. As a worker's wages rise, the government insurance subsidy for decreases, trapping the worker in a never-ending cycle of premium increases as their wages increase. There will be no incentive to excel because the worker's take home pay will not increase.

All of you 20 - 30 something dolts that voted for and supported all of this bullshit are going to have a rude awakening come 1/1/14. You bitch about your withholding taxes going up now> YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET!!!!

So if the Elites want to rid the world of the "useless eaters," why don't they leave us alone while we poison ourselves with tobacco? It doesn't make any sense. They can off the lower classes and make a profit doing it.

The only explanation I can come up with is that smoking spoils the quality of the meat for the Reptilians who eventually want to harvest the Earth.

Ive been to the doctor 3 times in twelve years. Two of those times, it was to give birth.

I smoke 1 pack a day and have since I was 21, I'm now 45.

Last time I went to a doctor was when I broke my toe about ten years ago. I eat whole foods and exercise daily. Got the constitution of a brass eagle. Never get sick.

I don't smoke, but my girlfriend does and she is a skinny bitch who never gets sick either. Again, whole foods and exercise.

Once this is implemented there will be little healthcare available. You need to take care of yourself. I quit drinking beer, Pepsi and I've got coffee down to one cup of decaf. This will turn out to be do-it-yourself care....

How would they know you smoke? Hell, lie. I'm not a tobacco smoker, never have been, but live and let live! I also firmly believe it's the crap in manufaactured cigs that gets ya, not the tobacco. Humans have been using tobacco for...ever! Grow your own!!!!!!!!

We were required to sign a statement, It plainly stated that if you checked "Non-Smoker" and if you went to the doc and had blood drawn, they could test for nicotine and if positive, you would owe all back premiums, a fine and have all coverage canceled....

I don't have a good understanding of Obamacare yet, but I'm not sure if this will have much of an impact or not.

First, you mentioned a high percentage of smokers are low income. A lot of them don't have health insurance right?
And can't you choose just to pay the penalty each year rather than carry insurance?

This penalty will be on your income tax return, right?

Most of these people get massive tax refunds anyway (via earned income credit). So all it will do is lower their tax refunds a bit??

And the Pre-existing condition clauses must be removed from all insurance policies, right??

So, If I'm thinking this will mostly only affect people who pay for insurance through their employers or who can afford their own personal policies..which is not a lot of people.
Most companies are already charging more for people who smoke or who are obese and don't agree to sign a plan to get healthier.

And yes, there is a nicotine test that is now being done, so you will get caught lying about smoking.

But, if I'm thinking about this right, this will affect higher income folks more becuase lower income folks won't be paying anyway..

Partly correct, Obamacare specifically states it doesn't carry any chronic or lifelong diseases or ailments.

Can you elaborate on that..for example..somebody with Type 1 diabetes..that is a lifelong disease, right?? You lost me there.

Actually one part of the ACA I agree with. I don't feel my insurance premium should be inflated just because the insurance company is doling out more money to pay for those who smoke cigarettes.

I understand the complexities of private insurance and how everyone must pay in for the few people who need expensive care to be taken care of. But frankly, if you are abusing your body, filling it with trash and still expect everyone else to support your mal-nutritive addiction, you owe it to everyone else to pay a higher premium. It's only fair, I spend alot of extra money buying local grown organic vegitables and meats, while the others spend alot on fast-food, cigarettes and pain medications.

Its a sick cyclical cycle of social wrecklessness. And I am sick of paying for it!

Diabetes shots/pumps are covered with a co-pay now...one of the few that made it through the cuts. Most everything else that is lifelong (STDs, anything "chronic xxx..." or "terminal" got the boot as far as coverage.)

This is because smokers incur much higher incidents of health issues and should be required to pay more. Just common sense stuff here.

Wisconsin just amended its tobacco tax. I went to get a pack of reds today, $8.27 in Wisconsin. God dam.

In my country, smokers die 14 years earlier than non-smokers. They definitely incur higher costs during their last years for all their bypass surgeries and cancer treatments and whatnot, but on the bright side, they don't stick around and collect their pensions for very long!

I think it's probably a net win for the taxpayer. Let 'em smoke, I say.

just dont tell them you smoke... easy.
