people like to pay for name brands for reason, mostly stupidity. in fall river massachusetts is a company called american dryer, they build clothes driers, and at the end of the line they slap tags on then like whirlpool or maytag or kenmore, same machines, different names, different prices!

Re: Coca-Cola admits Dasani is really just 'purified' tap water
the point of purified water isn't the source but the purity

if it's pure h20 without fluoride or minerals, that's all you care about

of course dasani isn't that either, your best bet is to buy
distilled water, distilled water is the purest water you can (easily) buy

This was never a secret, it was always clearly printed on the bottle. This is not new or news.

The pH of Dasani is around 4.0

The pH of Coke is 3-4.2

If I had to make a guess, I'd say that Dasani water is just the carbonated water they use for coke that went past its expiration.

My wife insists on buying water from those refill stations at the supermarket. I joke that they probably are connected to a hose in a sink in the back.

She doesn't appreciate my sense of humor sometimes.

This is so true we have one of these at the supermarket in our small town all it is is one extra filter it passes through.

I live in Calgary, Alberta and a few years back the health region shut down several of the grocery store machines due to bacteria contamination. They said in our local news that it measured dirtier than public toilets. The shocking part it was different chains across the city and even into a small town called Ardrie. They said that the grocers were not cleaning them enough and that the general public contaminated the machines by touching outside parts. I can't remember everything that they found, but the one that stuck out most to me was the fecal matter.

Bottled water drills a hole in the ground to pump it up and tap water does the same (in the same water layers generally even).

you really need to take a field trip to YOUR local WATER TREATMENT PLANT.

Coca-Cola has no wells. I've done work for Coca Cola, they use the local municipality water. In all honesty, it wouldn't make a difference. They just filter what the local municipality provides and it would still be the same water if they filtered from a well.

Some municipalities have been filtering raw sewage for water via reverse osmosis. FDA approved. They see a benefit because they can sell fertilizer and water at the same time.

Wow! You're just now waking up to this? I could write novels about the dangers of bottled water but I'll spare you the details.
Buy yourself an under-the-counter 5 stage reverse osmosis system for your drinking water. You can probably find one for $150-$200. It'll pay for itself in no time and will last at least 5 years, but I've seen some that'll last 15 years.

I keep fish and it always drives me crazy that if I put them in the same water I drink....they die.....come on....doesn't that say something.

RO water is simply your safest bet for drinking water these days

Re: Coca-Cola admits Dasani is really just 'purified' tap water
I laughed the first time I seen the bottled water especially from Coca-Cola.

Coca-Cola has to purify their water prior to makeing cola with it and this is just the purified water. .... ie, Filtered tap water in a clear bottle with a label.

The part I always laughed about was the price of the water only is more expensive then the cola which is the water with sugar and carmel coloring added.

Purified tap water, watch the video. If it says "spring water"
it is trucked in and purified. Other wise it's city water.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24957083

Yes, indeed. Coca Cola used to bottle some Dasani water at a plant down the road from me, in rural Gilchrist county Florida. The water was ACTUALLY pumped from a beautiful source called Ginnie Springs. After the FDA loosened the definition of "purified" water a few years back, Coke closed the spring water plant and just started bottling tap water in Atlanta. The plant has just been re-opened by a Canadian company, but I don't know what they call their product.

There is a good documentary about water and where we are headed in the future called We Are Water. www.WeAreWaterProject.com
