Re: Watching MSNBC right now: prescription drug users to require out of pocket for every purchase
I just read the post about aiming not to be on prescription medications. How do I maintain my transplanted kidney (due to genetic kidney disease, not alcohol or drugs,) without my anti-rejection medications? Huh? I worked and paid taxes in this country (also working for the US Government, Postal Service many years.) I guess it's good-bye Grandma, right? I had my 61st birthday less than a month ago..I'm expendable, right?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33090208

It's not that you're just expendable Grandma, you are a liability.

Obamacare = The Final Solution for the baby boom problem.

Haven't you looked at the demographics for the last forty years?

Still think that Roe v Wade was a great idea?

Time to pay the piper.

I take thyroid meds too, but they do NOTHING. I have zero metabolism, lethargy; chronic cold nose, hands, and feet. Hard-to-detect heartbeat, low blood pressure, and if I cut myself, I hardly bleed. I am the walking dead.

Is this your experience, OP?

Thank you.
 Quoting: Exorcise This

Have you had a thyroidectomy and still have these sxs?
 Quoting: rachaelsdad

No thyroidectomy. In fact, I never even heard the term until now. Is this a recommened procedure for such symptoms?

Thank you for the info. I'm certainly eager for answers/suggestions.

In some cases the thyroid actually blocks the Thyroid oral medication. Also what are your TSH T3 and Free T4 levels. These should be checked regularly for dosage and effectiveness.

It seems like my test results are always "borderline." Haven't been back to the doc in a while; I'd kind of given in to my fate. it's time for another check! I'm now encouraged to do so.

rachaelsdad, I really appreciate you taking the time to advise me with on this.

This only applies to those who can afford it.

The poor will still get free meds.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33135985

Don't bet on the poor getting a free ride...you should know by now that just because Obama says something doesn't in any way shape or form make it the truth.

Priced by your social security number huh? Well that is easy to figure out..they just look up your SS# in their government files...see how much you make a year by accessing your tax returns and charge you accordingly..where was this little jewel of knowledge when they were passing this thing through the Senate? Why did not anyone say anything about this to the public??

Why? Because they knew if the general population knew of this the dam thing would have never passed ..that's why!!

Oh and another thing ..if you smoke they will deny you health care through Obamacare and they have already talked to the big insurance companies to make sure they raise their rates so high, if your a smoker, that you would be paying a quarter of your yearly salary just for private individual health insurance! They want smokers to die! Is this America?? We protect the rights of citizens in other countries and fight wars over leaders attacking their own citizens and yet we will start slowly killing off part of our population because they smoke????????!!! Insane.

And also they are discussing with the medical boards about what to do with over weight people too..they also cost the taxpayer too much money in health related illnesses..they will be on the death list next !!!

The main thing they keep forgetting is that these people who they want to price health insurance out of reach for ..they pay the taxes!!! It is their country !! They supposedly live in a free country!! What is fair ..what is free about all this?? Genocide of your own because you do not agree with their lifestyles or the way they look?? How arrogant we have become and how pathetic!

Great goal. I had the same one a few years back when I was on a zillion and two of them after being diagnosed with MS. I only helped myself and my recovery by dropping every one of them. I still have MS, but I'm 100 times better and take ZERO medications.

Just healthy eating, regular exercise and a low level of stress.

Good. We need a little bit of personal responsibility thrown in with medical care. That few dollars of out of pocket may make people ask the doctor if they really need yet another pill.

Sometimes the answer will be "well not really", less money spent on health care, less damage from unneeded prescriptions.
 Quoting: Fred 33128068

so then EVERYONE should pay something? or just the ones who work?

do you not get the whole concept that those who already get it for free from the taxpayer will still get it for free and those of us who pay something will now pay more?

OP: as an aside, if you need sleep meds why on thyroid your are still hypo.. (if you are hypo.. if you are hyper then its another story but then again you wouldnt be on regular meds).

If you are on synthyroid, look at natural dessicated thyroid instead. If you cant get your doc to Rx it, you can order it online and then there is no copay.. and you wont need sleep meds because you are currently underdosed.

What the man just said on T.V. is that Obamacare is going to require out of pocket payment for every prescription drug obtained. The amount is based on social security number and level of aid.

Now it breaks to commercial.

Hrm, anyone else catch that? I take two now, a thyroid and sleeping one.
 Quoting: CE Aero

How long have you been taking thyroid meds and what state do you reside in?

And btw, this is all if you opt out of private insurance or can't get it. From my understanding, private insurance will remain up to the individual policy.

Everyone has a Social Security number, but not everyone pays into it,- so this is just more and more being robbed from the people that pay into Social Security. Get it ! ! !

Only the private sector (non-government, working stiffs) pays into the Social Security. Itisnot a tax where everyone pays a little.

Just like home owners; the full load of the school costs fall on the home owners only.

Now the full load of medical costs fall on the working stiffs only.

This is slavery.
 Quoting: SwanSong 33061244

i think the only thing that has changed is that itwill be coming out of the Social Security now, which is only paid by the few non-government workers, instead of taxes, which is paid by everyone, including government worker.

The people getting the real break will be the government workers, and Corporate Society's broodmares.

Let's assume your 95% statistic is correct (which it isn't).

How do you propose socialism motivates people to develop that 5%?
 Quoting: Professor Xavier

With a socialistic system, the main goal would be to keep people well so they wouldn't need so damn much healthcare. Preventative meds and ones that really work would be developed and used.

In the USA, meds often cause a multitude of side-effects that require more meds and more $$$$ into that for-profit system.

Do you actually believe that a CEO, whose main goal is making more money, wants to see you with good health? Please, prof X - it's reality time.

Granted, well run socialistic systems are very rare, but even the worst of them can beat the USA, which is why more and more people go abroad for care...

By the way, since this is a pro-gun site, the designer of the world's most popular gun, Kalashnikov, was paid tiny wages for his development. Many great inventions in all kinds of industries took place in Soviet Russia, for example...even without dishing out large paychecks to people.

And while I don't have much experience visiting doctors, the one I saw in Russia, for free when I lived there, spent more time with me than the over-paid docs in the USA...
