So you find out you will be in a wheelchair for the rest of your days. What next?

OP, not in a wheel chair but close to that....I'm avoiding that at all cost. I have MS.

I work full time, from home. I make phenominal money and I am not kidding. I'm married and have a five year old child.

Yes I'm exhausted most of the time, but I didn't let it get me down.

So what is next....get some determination. Refuse to let this be the block that stops you from fullfilling what you want for yourself.

How does a normal person cope? You have 20+ years left to contribute, but how, trying not to be bitter?

Pat answers from folks who are ambulatory are lame. How's that for a joke!

The main issue is one of dealing with the stigma socially. Having used a wheelchair for a period of about a month due to a severe accident, I witnessed both the stupid comments as well as the looks of disgust as I wheeled around the grocery. It was enlightening.

There's no cure for stupid people; they just suck all around.

On a personal level, your normal bowel functions are messed up sometimes and require pressing on your abdomen. Something that makes a lot of patients feel even worse.

A routine massage if you have a loved one really helps. The lymph in your body is normally moved by the movement of your limbs. It's essential to maintaining good circulation and improving your immune system.

There are muscle and bone stimulators. I'd get them. It really helps. Both will atrophy from disuse, so the goal is to maintain what you have.

It's true that it will take a special person to connect you romantically and see your inner spirit. The same is true of friends. Since most people surround themselves with acquaintences of dubious worth, then really it's a blessing to have 5 good friends instead of 50 fair weather friends.

A lot of employers will work with you in the USA because of the ADA, even allowing you to telecommute to your job.

God bless you. Just ignore the idiot advice, and most of advice is freely given by idiots.

Good to see good and kind advice from some on both pages of replies.
Best of all though is PRAY to Jesus.
He is always with you and will give you guidence on your new journey of life if you only ask Him and invite Him to be #1 in your heart always.

I've already been completely paralyzed once.

NOPE. Not doing that shit again. It's not the most terrible thing it's just something one should only have to experience once per lifetime.
I reaffirm my previous post. LOTS of LSD and hash, I mean, I'm not going to be very productive anyways.

Check out the movie The Session. It's one of the best movies I've seen in years. It is a movie about relationships. It's really a beautiful movie. I wish you all the best.

I thought so. Men who lose the ability to "relieve" themselves sexually have a tendancy to commit suicide.

Seems like a sick statement...but it was meant in good conscience.

Seriously, if a wheelchair is the worst of it, it's not that bad. Plenty of life still worth living even if you are wheelchair bound.
