Respectfully... what you are chosing to believe is what they (and their invisible leader) want you to believe. If perhaps you looked a little deeper, you may discover that God's Word is just that... for instance, no mere supposedly "illuminated" men (regardless of the source of their supposed illumination) could accurately predict history written in advance. To wit: World wars, earthquakes, pestilence, the ruining of the earth... all these at a grand, world-wide scale. I read a good bit of it and it seemed pretty fair. I'm a scientist, so I value freedom to do what I want but I'm not driven mostly by money. Liberals value science pretty well. Conservatives value freedom. Who values both though? I usually end up having no one to root for, but the idea of a merit based system jives with my values to an extent. I still think checks and balances are good and appreciate the god given rights and branches of govt. set up by the Constitution. That would probably be a good idea to achieve the goals you set out. You want real democracy and a world that responds to the people's needs. Sometimes we can't just put people in power and trust they'll do the right thing. We need to put in place structural checks so that no one branch is too powerful no matter what. That's the main idea of the U.S. Constitution I think and one that I think would be useful even if you don't agree with all the specific points of that document. The intent of basic inalienable rights for everyone and structural division of power is enlightened I think and one I would implement in a new system. Since when are science and freedom diametrically opposed to one another? They're not, but I guess you just don't hear much from the political conservatives about science. But you're right, they're totally not opposed. |
