It is a my dad > than your dad thingy. Our pile of gold is bigger than your pile.
This is just another step toward "people" realizing that gold isn't really worth anything.
You know, I would have thought that diamonds would have already become worthless, but people are still dying to have more or bigger diamonds than someone else.
There are so many vaults full of diamonds that have never seen the light of day, that you could pave roads with them, but people still "value" them. People are so funny.

It's not only the gold, it's the capacity of the population to generate revenue. The US doesnt even generate enough gross to cover it's debts. that means it's dead, economically, and there is no prospect for anything better.
