Shooting at our local high school.........

There was in incident at the High School which caused concern. At approximately 1:20 PM, during a fire alarm, an email came from a parent indicating a perceived threat initiated by a student conversation in class. This conversation included a statement about a threat that would be activated by a fire alarm. Because of the email and the actual fire alarm, the district took immediate action to move students to a secure location at the YMCA and the Boone Police Department was notified.

In light of recent school violence, the district took precautionary measures to ensure student safety and initiated the lock down procedure at all school buildings. After a search of the High School and interviews with students, there was no immediate threat to student safety, and there was no actual connection between the information in the parent email and the fire alarm. No students were ever in immediate danger, there were no weapons used or found, and the Boone Police Department is continuing their investigation.

We did send out an All School Alert at 2:55 pm which stated, "Due to an incident at the high school, as a precautionary measure the BCSD is on lockdown. All students and faculty are safe. High School students have been relocated to the YMCA. All other buildings are on lockdown until we receive an all clear from the Boone Police Department. Buses will not be run until the all clear is given estimated at 4:00. Prior to 4:00 students may be released to their parents only from their school buildings. High School students will be released from the YMCA." While this system works well with email, we have learned that depending on the type of phone you have, text messages may not have been fully received. With the transition to Infinite Campus one of the upgrades not previously available is a new message system. This system should be up and running soon.

The Boone Police Department did an exceptional job in responding, and they have cleared the building for students and faculty to re-enter. The High School building will be open until 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening.

Tuesday will be a regular school day, and there will NOT be Iowa Assessments at the High School. Regular classes will be in session at all buildings.

The district would like to thank the students, parents, teachers, staff, community officials, and the YMCA for their cooperation and support during this critical incident.

They had the nerve to try another "fire drill" yesterday.

Talk about keeping the kids freaked out.

Now something else "suspicious" has come forward because of Monday.

2 bomb squad cars were seen twice in our town. Once right after the kids were evacuated from the building & again later.

I am. There are quite a few kids who refuse to return to school until somethings are addressed - the real reason for the lock down, why the reports of students seeing students in the school with guns are being dismissed., etc.

None.......they are still saying no one was in danger.

I'm really grilling the paper as to student accounts that they saw other students in the building with guns.

Of course, I'm being ignored.

My hubby & I (& his co-workers) that this was a shooting drill to see how well everyone worked together.
