Wonder if it will hit any satellites.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33202773

What about the Moon? Considering the orbit, the Moon could be closer then we are. But I am just guessing, I have no information where the two will be then.

Discovered by the LaSagra observatory in southern Spain, the small asteroid 2012 DA14 will pass within about 3.5 Earth radii of the Earth's surface on February 15, 2013. Although its size is not well determined,

I actually dont see this one being a threat to us.

There is too much info out there about this one that anyone can look up and verify...

sure it might take out a few satellites...

but an actual earth impact... naw...

If we were to have an impact i'd imagine it be from a threat that hasnt been discovered yet...

not trying to kill the thread

anyways carry on... doom on lol

Lets assume it hit, well with it's size it would probably be like meteor crater in arizona.

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

Been there it was awesome. 1 mile wide crater. 10 megaton explosion. But overall, not a global killer, maybe it could take out a city. I wonder, and probably assume an ocean impact would be worse, tidal waves and such.

This thing, according to the article, is half a football field wide, I heard someone say 50 meters, I dunno where you are getting 24 miles from. Meters <> Miles. This thing is MUCH smaller than what we assume took out the dinosaurs. So again I point you to Meteor Crater, it was presumed to be a 50 meter iron-nickel meteor, sounds very similar to what's coming by February 15th.

IF IF IF

you can use the map in the link... slide the weapon selector to asteroid and you can see the destruction that the Chicxulub Impact had... (Dinosaur Killer)

[link to www.carloslabs.com]

don't freak out cos this is an hypothetical situation and im more likely to become president than DA15 hitting hf

and DA15 isnt hardly comparable to what killed the dino's

I was wondering when people on here were going to start talking about the asteroid that will fly by on the 15th of Feb at a range of .09 lunar distances from Earth.

Should I bring in the tomato's or not?
