American Drones for Covert Underwater Warfare against ?????

The US Navy is currently experimenting with a new breed of drone submarines in the waters next to Newport, Rhode Island. Their hope is that these drones will take the first steps (or the first doggy paddle, if you will) into a future of autonomous submarines.

These drones, which are technically known as Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (of course) could be a “game changer” for the Navy, said Christoper Egan, a program manager at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center. Every single thing that makes aerial drones so effective can just as easily be applied to submarines. On Friday, the National Marine Fisheries Services released proposals that would allow naval war games off the Atlantic, Hawaii and the southern California coast for five years, and such repetition would equal millions of sonar assaults on marine life. This would inevitably result in thousands of cases of hearing loss, lung injuries, brain hemorrhages; tissue damage from decompression sickness, disorientation, potential beaching and death.

The Marine Service’s proposals would allow the US Navy to perform underwater detonations, sinking of ships, gunnery exercises and active sonar, which is so loud it would amount to harassment and potentially lethal results for whales, dolphins, seals and others.

What if the whole French angle was disinfo, and the sub was really Chinese? This was only a few months before the missile was fired off of the California coast. Maybe they got caught in the gulf, but not in the Pacific?

And that whole oil spill thing kept all eyes on the gulf for a good long time. Along with a good excuse to have law enforcement along the shores at all times.

Interesting, I have read numerous anecdotes around the web over the last few weeks that there are anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand Blue Helmets at Fort Bragg at this very moment.

This could be a thinly veiled excuse for China to start moving it's forces out into the Pacific toward the US. (Japan has about 300K total military, China has 2.2 million. David, Goliath, etc.)

War between the US and China — an unpleasant thought, for sure…unless you happen to be a defense contractor. The threat of war could be sufficient to power the defense industry’s profit growth for many years.
