This is not more than trying to explain all the evidence (science, The Bible, the supernatural). If you assume reincarnation then body and mind must be separate. On the other hand, science indicates that they are not. The Bible suggests that the universe is approximately 6,000 years old. Science indicates that it is billions of years. What to make of that? Based on the information we have now, accident and evolution are the most likely causes of human existence. If there is unlimited time and space then there are unlimited possibilities. Human existence is a possible outcome of a process that lasted billions of years in a universe of billions of light-years in size. DNA shows traces of random development suggesting evolution. Probably God is part of an advanced civilisation that came into existence by chance and evolution. Creating humans in the image of God therefore means copying humans from a real world into an imaginary world called Creation. The word image implies that the species are copied and not designed. The copying of images included a fossil record of previous species. The artefacts suggesting that our universe has evolved in billions of years are the result of The Programme creating a starting point for history to begin with. The transition from the setup phase of The Programme called Creation, and the run phase of The Programme called history, may never be traceable. The Programme is responsible for simulating all physical, chemical and biological laws and evolution in the virtual world. The Programme is so advanced that it simulates human behaviour in detail. In my opinion, reincarnation is a process affecting all living beings, by that I mean an elephant could reincarnate himself into a human being and a human being could reincarnate himself as a bee and a bee could reincarnate as a horse and so on I have the feeling that the number of living beings on the planet is constant throughout time. I sometimes wonder if some of the problems we experience aren't a result of our experiences in past lives. So far no one has been able to prove it, but James' story comes close. That being said, I always wondered about my middle son and his early and continuing fascination with soldiers, Viet Nam, 70's music, etc. He was born in 1983 and began showing the interest in it by the time he was age 4. He was constantly drawing pictures of soldiers with guns, tanks and helicopters, even though we rarely ever watched movies at home like that. He even got in trouble at school for drawing such pictures. Then as he got older he watched every Viet Nam movie he could get his hands on. He ran into a Nam veteran in town and listened intently to his stories. He listened mostly to early 70's music. No one could understand his infatuation with that era. On the other hand, when interviewed by a newspaper reporter in 2003 about his reaction to our military invasion of Afghanistan, he remarked that the best thing we could do for our troops was to bring them back home. Of course maybe my anti-war sentiments rubbed off on him there, but he was quite bright and thought for himself. He's gone now and I hope and pray that I will be able to be with him in another lifetime. |
