something like this happened to a co-worker of mine when him, his brother, and a friend where walking downtown calgary from a pub to a restaraunt. 9 asians got out of a car with a sign pole and nearly beat him to death with it (co-worker), the other guys came out luckier. they didn't do anything to provoke so i am guessing it was an initiation type attack.
