China Just Threatened a Currency War If the Fed Doesn’t Stop Printing
The tension between Central Banks that we noted yesterday continues to worsen. This time it was China and the EU, not just Germany, that fired warning shots at the US Fed.

A senior Chinese official said on Friday that the United States should cut back on printing money to stimulate its economy if the world is to have confidence in the dollar.

Asked whether he was worried about the dollar, the chairman of China’s sovereign wealth fund, the China Investment Corporation, Jin Liqun, told the World Economic Forum in Davos: “I am a little bit worried.”

“There will be no winners in currency wars. But it is important for a central bank that the money goes to the right place,” Li said.

Speaking at the same session, French Finance Minister Pierre Moscovici voiced concern that the euro was becoming overvalued as a result of quantitative easing and other stimulus actions taken by other nations’ central banks.

Europe will rule after this crisis is over. The germans know very well the consequences of inflation. That's why europe is adjusting to it's level of competitiveness. Others like the Uk and US just print money to cover the deficit. The US is dependent on the good will of the chinese to finance it's economy while europe is exporting even more and more to china. When the chinese dump the us dollar the us economy is toasted.

Not sure what you mean by "hot air". The consequence will be China further devaluing their currency, which will later result in the fed printing more money to devalue the dollar, and on and on and on. The net result being ALL currencies are devalued meaning you end up paying more and more and more for everything you need to live.

China news site had words of Reserve currency for the Yuan now besides an article with unloved dollar as the title. Orignally the info came from a blog that can't be linked in but has sherrie questioning all as the blog name. China came right out and said reserve currency. That was a first for them to use those words.

The Yuan can't be a reserve currency unless China lets it compete agienst the others without controlling it directly. And if it does, it could get so high that it could devastate their exports, which is based in large part on their currency being so cheap.

Re: China Just Threatened a Currency War If the Fed Doesn’t Stop Printing
There is plenty of money now, but the banks that have received the fed's largesse and now hold well over a trillion dollars (1.4T, last time I checked) in "excess reserves" at the fed, cannot take those funds and use them to stimulate the economy.

On the contrary, they must keep the money at the fed as a condition of receiving the fed's bailouts. This has the effect of sterilizing the money and keeping it from causing inflation, which is the normal situation in a fiat economy when economic activity is pursued. In other words, if they loan it to "main street", the inflation game will explode and the fed won't be able to keep rates artifically low.

A direct and nearly-immediate result of this is believed to be (by the fed) that interest rates would rise and the USG would be unable to service its debt.

thus...

The fed has painted itself into a corner and will continue as they are ad infinitum, or it's game over.

They are not pointless wars. They are keeping the muzzies from overrunning and destroying europe. If we left them alone, they would unite and go after their favorite target again - Europe. Keep one area destabilized to keep another better area stable.

As usual, words are not the equivalent of action. Words by their very nature are like thoughts, which are empty.
Check back in a few more years to see if those words meant anything.
