go to the dentist ...if it is one of the upper molar teeth you run the risk of breaking a hole into the sinus cavity ...
and then you will be in real trouble.

I recommend going to pet smart and buying a box of e erythromycin in the fish department. You get 2000 mgs for 16.00 tax included and take 400 mgs at a time every 4-6 hrs. It comes in powder form and tastes like a crawlspace smells, but one box should cure the infection within 24-48 hours.

Been through this with a canine tooth, Horrible pain. Went to Emergency Room on a Friday Night, immediately put me on antibiotics to kill infection. Made dentist appointment and had them pull it........

Don't risk doing this by yourself, without anyone here seeing your condition, things could easily spiral out of control.

If its not done right and all of the infection treated you can end up with a full body infection, and that could kill you, and you won't even know its happening except that your immune system will be so damaged and you just become weaker and weaker.

Not only should it be pulled by someone who knows what they are doing, but the cavity has to be treated so that ALL of the infection is totally gone!

ITS A SERIOUS THING.

No. You can ot do it by yourself.

Pain is the obvious issue.

But have you ever seen the sheer muscle required to extract a tooth? You can't get the force required to pull out a tooth on your own. Teeth have roots and are nestled into the one pretty firmly.

An abscess is not a tooth issue, it's a gum issue.

Pulling it will do nothing but make your problem exponentially worse.

Re: abscessed tooth can I pull it out myself?
I had an abscess once on my tooth I sliced some raw garlic pressed it on my gum held it as long as I could (it burns) it not only relived the pain but it was the best nights sleep I had in about three days. I then repeated it every time it felt painful and eventually it went away. My face was swollen on one side but I took garlic capsules which I bought from a herbalist (six a day) for seven days. It worked for me although garlic is thought to be a natural antibiotic you may need something stronger and you really you should seek medical help as well. I do recommend trying the garlic to alleviate the pain though.

Hydrogen peroxide will help with the pain. I've heard of a man who died of an abscessed tooth. Please don't wait. See a dentist.

Most likely the dentist will not be able to pull it before putting you on antibiotic for a week or two first, the infection can enter the blood stream and go straight to your brain.

Look in to carecredit also, Can apply and be accepted in 5 min. It is a no interest health care credit card, I’ve had mine for over a decade and I hate credit cards. Great for emergency’s like this.

Re: abscessed tooth can I pull it out myself?
In the meantime, try popping the abcess. It's basicly just full of puss and will drain just like a zit with a small needle. Your pain is coming from the swelling.

Try that first.

Also, sucking on whole cloves and letting them sit against the swollen gum area will have a numbing effect that will last for a while.

I didn't believe it either till I tried it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33275870

Just went through this with a son with no job - no dentist - no $$.

Swab area with clove oil (available in Middle Eastern and Asian markets)- great to numb the area. 'Swish' with warm salt water as often as possible. the abcess can be lanced and drained -- continue to swish with warm salt water. If you can get antibiotics from the emergency room, that would be best, but if not able to obtain, alternate rinsing with warm salt water followed by peroxide will help. the process can take about 72 hours before you will have noticable results.
don't try to extract the tooth yourself - if the crown of the tooth breaks and the root(s) are left, you are setting yourself up for more problems. Is there a University with a Dental school in your area? you can 'walk-in' to their clinic and they will usually help you -- not the students!! the Professors will use you as a teaching aide -- all free of charge.
Good Luck

Internal drainage is of more concern as growing infection makes space within the tissues surrounding the infection. Severe complications requiring immediate hospitalization include Ludwig's angina, which is a combination of growing infection and cellulitis which closes the airway space causing suffocation in extreme cases. Also infection can spread down the tissue spaces to the mediastinum which has significant consequences on the vital organs such as the heart. Another complication, usually from upper teeth, is a risk of septicaemia (infection of the blood) from connecting into blood vessels, brain abscess (extremely rare), or meningitis (also rare).

Depending on the severity of the infection, the sufferer may feel only mildly ill, or may in extreme cases require hospital care. In 2011, Kyle Willis died from an untreated dental abscess in Cincinnati,[3] as did fashion designer Hugo Boss, in 1948. [4]

A 24-year-old Cincinnati father died from a tooth infection this week because he couldn't afford his medication, offering a sobering reminder of the importance of oral health and the number of people without access to dental or health care.

According to NBC affiliate WLWT, Kyle Willis' wisdom tooth started hurting two weeks ago. When dentists told him it needed to be pulled, he decided to forgo the procedure, because he was unemployed and had no health insurance.

When his face started swelling and his head began to ache, Willis went to the emergency room, where he received prescriptions for antibiotics and pain medications. Willis couldn't afford both, so he chose the pain medications.

The tooth infection spread, causing his brain to swell. He died Tuesday.

Guy locally by me died ingesting bacteria during routine teeth cleaning. Can’t find an article it was 20 years ago. But it is more common than people realize.

Unless you just mean they can pull it and put you on antibiotic after, but they will stick you on something a lot stronger like Cipro if they do it that way.

Use any one or a combination of: clove oil, clove powder, garlic and olive leaf powder or oil to cure the abcess and then you don't have to pull the tooth.

Just today I cured a toothache I had with clove powder. It is highly antibacterial. I just put some powder around my gums and a couple hours later the toothache is gone.

Yes but you will likely need appropriate antibiotics for the festering infection around the tooth (in the gums). So at least when you pull it out, go to a walk-in urgent care clinic for the antibiotic prescription.

Yeah, this is what I meant. thumbs

There's a myth going around that dentists won't or can't pull a tooth that's badly infected until after the infection has healed.

It's just not true.
