Well if you put a T in from of hems them it is Thems with the the sound. I got in an argument that it certainly wasn't pronounced stateside like it was spelled Thames with a th sound and long a.

While we're on the topic of English pronunciation: "Derby" is pronounced as "Darby". Americans drive me nuts with that one.

And while we're at it, we Americans are repossessing the "r" in "arse". It doesn't belong there, and we need it at the end of words like "far" and "car", where you don't use it.

If you have any complaints, keep them to yourselves. We can't be arse'd.

You do.

Everyone else in the world pronounces it "Thaymes" which of course is the correct pronunciation. It makes me proud that although the English language originated with the Poms, it was only perfected with the advent of Australian English.

That would explain why it's usually Aussies who say it like that. I almost typed Aussie's when I posted that.

Re: How do you english people pronounce Thames?
As Oscar Wilde noted, the British and Americans are two peoples divided by a common language. If it wasn't Oscar, then it should have been.
