IRS suspicious warning!
Ok, I received an email stating that my return had been accepted by I* R *S with the following message

As part of controlled IRS testing, a small number of federal returns will be transmitted to the IRS between January 23 and January 29, 2013. This is before processing officially begins on January 30. If you receive an acknowledgement during this timeframe, your return has been accepted by the IRS but your refund will not be processed early.

ok..so I proceeded to i r s.gov and clicked "where's my refund"..done this many times in past years..

THIS TIME, however, after clicking that, I got a pop up box that said

This US government system is for authorized use only. Use of this system constitutes consent to monitoring, interception, recording, reading, copying or capturing by authorized personnel of all activities. There is no right to privacy in this system. Unauthorized use of this system is prohibited and subject to criminal and civil penalties. including all penalties applicable to willful unauthorized access(UNAX) or inspection of taxpayer records.(under 18 U.S.C.1030 and 26 U.S.C.7213A and 26U.S.C. 7431.

I was supposed to click "ok"..I did not..I backed out..none of my info had been entered...

WTF???? can someone else go there and click the where's my refund a couple times and see if this happens to you???

Thank you!!!!

Re: IRS suspicious warning!
By clicking several times you likely triggered a monitoring script that is being used to avoid their severs from being overloaded.

Nothing to worry about

I hope that is all it was, except, I only clicked once...I thought if it did not happen to anyone on the first try, they could go back and click it again and see..guess I should have worded that better...;)

we shall see..either way, I would not press OK or enter any info with that going on...

better to just call them.

anyway, I just wanted to warn people about this...and to think before clicking OK...if you click and then enter your info, hackers would have all they need to get whatever they want...

Abi, I'm having a small "senior moment" right now, but back about '08-09 this message came up. I think it was during the cash for clunkers period. Maybe someone else will remember? It was something to do with car financing. I remember everyone freaking out about the government being able to take control of our computers, if the link was clicked.

Thanks, AC. It seems to me the first sentence in the message is almost the same. They just took out the part about owning our computers. They can monitor EVERYTHING on your computer, the way I read it.

I never clicked ok. backed out, cleared and scanned everything and had not put any info in, yet, so should be ok...
and the government does not ask, they just take what they want...
I was thinking mostly about hackers getting your info because if you clicked OK, you would then enter your ss#, filing status and amount of refund..;)

I called, instead...no way I am clicking that and entering info after authorizing someone to monitor/scan/etc all my info and actions...
Maybe I am just too cynical, or maybe being safe...but I would not feel comfortable giving someone unauthorized access to me and my info..
we cannot always stop them from taking it, but we sure don't need to tell them to pretty please take it, ya know? ;)

It say, "all activities." PERIOD. That means they're going to watch everything you do on your computer. You sign on to your bank account, Facebook, send email, SKYPE, see a nasty picture, whatever, it doesn't matter. It's ALL ACTIVITIES!!!!
This is immoral and should be illegal! We need to get this changed ASAP!!!
