High School collecting students hair for mandatory drug testing
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (CBS St. Louis) — A Kansas City high school will begin collecting hair from students to conduct mandatory drug tests.

KHSB-TV reports that Rockhurst High School will start the random drug testing during the 2013-14 school year. The school will collect 60 strands of hair from the student and test for several types of drugs, including marijuana and cocaine. If a student comes back with a positive drug test, that student will have 90 days to get drug-free. The station reports the file will be destroyed for a student who tests positive after graduation and colleges and universities will never know about the failed test.

When people make a deal with the government to take on their parental responsibilities - giving over their children for 6 - 8 hours a day for imprinting and conditioning - they've made a deal with the devil.

Now this devil is dealing the cards and calling the shots.

Homeschooling is so easy now. Parents really need to consider this. Especially for high school. Kids can sign up for high school at places like Penn Foster, American School, etc. and finish up by 16/17 and start college and/or go to work. No more having to spend extra time in a place that is really starting to look like a prison.

If a kid eats a poppy seed muffin or anything with poppy seeds in them they can test positive for drugs like heroin. So kids won't be able to eat these things if they are going to drug test them. I worked for an airlines where we were randomly drug tested and told to never eat anything with poppy seeds because if you came up positive then you were fired. I can deal with that for a job but not for high school kids who shouldn't be under that type of pressure.

But, see, it's always been just as "easy".

The trouble is that we, as a society, have become so accustomed to living above our means; that new car, that particular address, the fees at the club, any of the numerous possessions that we "must" have - all of these have come to matter more than the lives of our children, and it's just plain revolting.

It's not the "ease" of homeschooling that has changed or needs to be discussed - it's the commitment (or lack thereof) to our own children, their education, and the responsibilities of parenting.

Re: High School collecting students hair for mandatory drug testing
There could be another motive/agenda.

All these hair strands are tagged to the names of each student. They don't need 60 strands to drug test so perhaps some of those strands will be sent out for DNA profiling.

Course they could test DNA with just one strand.

Remember that things never are what they appear to be.

If this flies in this school...watch for it to expand.

You guys...the school is private. Evidently the majority of the parents want this, or the school wouldn't be doing it.

Some parents think they can't teach their children because they don't have a teaching certificate or they don't know where to start. It can get overwhelming. All I am saying is that homeschooling has changed from decades ago and is very user friendly now. That makes parents less scared to make the change from public school to private homeschool.

Exactly, as a parent if you comply with this; now it's YOU who is the threat to freedom and privacy.. not the school administration or anyone else.. I'm more concerned with people who comply than with the tyranny..

I think the point is that the parents don't want drug use in the school they are paying $11,100/year for their son to attend.
