I think their financial issues are because they did not (and still do not) give a shit about the product they put out, they just cared that the sheeple will buy it because the choices were limited at the time.

Now that Apple is kicking their ass and Linux is growing daily, they are freaking out.

Windows 8 is the ugliest GUI I've ever seen. It looks like a 4th grader designed it. And yes, I know you can buy a "skin" and make it look like Windows 7, but why should I have to?

Almost all of my "hardcore windows" friends have said fuck it and switched to Mac and LOVE IT.

The Amiga has gone nowhere.... I own 3 of them. A modified A1200 with PPC card, another 1200 and a 4000. Still a thriving community and half decent webkit supported OS.

But you are not saying that the cloud is going to be mandatory and that there won't be an option to store your documents offline?

So 8 is crap, just stick to 7. No one would swap to an expensive, proprietary Mac that has no software for it, that you then have to try and run via compatibility nonsense.

As to the Mac OS having no viruses. That's because the virus writers target the OS that 90% of people use which is Windows, not the one that 4% of people use who is Apple.

You are right but Vista and 8 are failures. It's time to purchase from a different manufacturer. These days I only browse the net I don't need grunt anymore so I use a laptop.

There is no Windows 8 Ultimate. Windows 8 Pro costs only $30. It boots up faster, works faster, and works just like Windows 7 with minor tweaks. I don't know what you're really complaining about. Price wise, it's pretty affordable.

Reformatted my hard drive and installed Ubuntu via a USB stick last week. Bye bye windows - if you get the chance DO NOT install windows 8 !!

And, back to the issue of the subscription model for Windows, if that means that I don't have to pay the Microsoft tax when I buy new computers then I'm all for it.

Windows is still the best looking game thingy, but Linux is catching up and the wine project is another great addition to the penguins.

If someone never tried it with Linux, use Ubuntu as its very n00b friendly.
Somewhat more experienced users gonna benefit a lot from Fedora, the former RedHat. RedHat today is full proprietary but they support Fedora and its an amazing system to me.

however both microsoft and apple are looking to just rid the market of storage devices.
