Any software can be hacked. I think they are just adding to the chaos more. AND they need more money. Financial crisis is a bitch.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17865681

True. Any software can be hacked. Mostly theirs.

I think their financial issues are because they did not (and still do not) give a shit about the product they put out, they just cared that the sheeple will buy it because the choices were limited at the time.

Now that Apple is kicking their ass and Linux is growing daily, they are freaking out.

Windows 8 is the ugliest GUI I've ever seen. It looks like a 4th grader designed it. And yes, I know you can buy a "skin" and make it look like Windows 7, but why should I have to?

Almost all of my "hardcore windows" friends have said fuck it and switched to Mac and LOVE IT.

So 8 is crap, just stick to 7. No one would swap to an expensive, proprietary Mac that has no software for it, that you then have to try and run via compatibility nonsense.

Are you enjoying Black Op2 on your Mac? Oh doesnt work on that does it?

As to the Mac OS having no viruses. That's because the virus writers target the OS that 90% of people use which is Windows, not the one that 4% of people use who is Apple.

 Quoting: Hume-Ent 33365259

There is no Windows 8 Ultimate. Windows 8 Pro costs only $30. It boots up faster, works faster, and works just like Windows 7 with minor tweaks. I don't know what you're really complaining about. Price wise, it's pretty affordable.

Windows is still the best looking game thingy, but Linux is catching up and the wine project is another great addition to the penguins.

If someone never tried it with Linux, use Ubuntu as its very n00b friendly.
Somewhat more experienced users gonna benefit a lot from Fedora, the former RedHat. RedHat today is full proprietary but they support Fedora and its an amazing system to me.

now that apple talks of using ssd drive more often in their machines, this can be interesting for the prices of ssd drives in general.

however both microsoft and apple are looking to just rid the market of storage devices.

they are already removing optic drives.

next the guberment will say its illegal to own a hard disk drive.. cause if you do you will be flaged as a terrorist hacker!

same as android. I still prefer Debian overall because you can build it to what you including ARMs. A lot of the Linux distros are built by folks all over the planet. Like the story of DSL. Puppy, etc. to SuSe (which is Novell) and Ubuntu (Conical). It is a heck of a lot easier to LVM SuSe than any MS product. How about running an entire OS off of a thumb drive? DSL is the best for that, the project is up again.

As far Office applications go Kontact works really well on Mint use that along with Basket notes. I'm a really big fan of KDE but the newest release has much improved the stability of Akonadi.

I personally dumped Microsoft when Vista came I still mess with it because my wife likes it, but it's burning her up too.

It's a little more work with Linux, you have to learn new terminology as in sudo, apt-get, rd and such. Linux is like Unix as it is picky with it's command lines. If you don't like doing command lines with everything, use Mint I generally it's more stable than Ubuntu especially with the KDE desktop, it MATE and Cinnamon desktop interfaces are just about bulletproof. Then ther is Gentoo and Backtrack another world there.

I personally like to take a bare bones Lenny and build myself, but it's a personal preference of mine.

Point is you can take a lot of the distros and make them what you want.

Re: Microsoft Rumored to start charging for windows OS with a Subscription per month
I don't think Microsoft will charge a subscription fee to use their operating system or update it. Microsoft thrives on piracy. Their market share wouldn't be as much if it wasn't for pirate copies, they know it and love it.

That said, Microsoft has no clue where it wants to go. Windows 8 is a pile of stinking mess. As a desktop OS, it sucks. As a tablet OS, it sucks. W8 on phones suck. They have innovated nothing over the past decade.

To be fair, I also hate Apple's OS X. Not just the cost of hardware, but the operating system. It's not intuitive and you can never get any window to go full screen.

Linux, I didn't forget you. I also hate you. It's cool that it's open source and free, but it's terribly slow and needs a lot of maintenance to operate or even do simple things like install and update.

So I guess I hate every operating system. I'm sticking with Windows 7 until there is some new, revolutionary operating system.
