Vitamin A can be very toxic, hard to balance the form and dosage of it,but i guess ill start taking cod liver oil, this is a great thread :)
Toxicity

The condition caused by vitamin A toxicity is called hypervitaminosis A. It is caused by overconsumption of preformed vitamin A, not carotenoids. Preformed vitamin A is rapidly absorbed and slowly cleared from the body. Therefore, toxicity from preformed vitamin A may result acutely from high-dose exposure over a short period of time or chronically from a much lower intake (2). Acute vitamin A toxicity is relatively rare, and symptoms include nausea, headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, dizziness, dry skin, desquamation, and cerebral edema. Signs of chronic toxicity include dry itchy skin, desquamation, loss of appetite, headache, cerebral edema, and bone and joint pain. Also, symptoms of vitamin A toxicity in infants include bulging fontanels.Severe cases of hypervitaminosis A may result in liver damage, hemorrhage, and coma. Generally, signs of toxicity are associated with long-term consumption of vitamin A in excess of ten times the RDA (8,000 to 10,000 mcg/day or 25,000 to 33,000 IU/day). However, more research is necessary to determine if subclinical vitamin A toxicity is a concern in certain populations (37). There is evidence that some populations may be more susceptible to toxicity at lower doses, including the elderly, chronic alcohol users, and some people with a genetic predisposition to high cholesterol (8). In January 2001, the Food and Nutrition Board (FNB) of the Institute of Medicine set the tolerable upper intake level (UL) of vitamin A intake for adults at 3,000 mcg (10,000 IU)/day of preformed vitamin A (21).

I think in the old days, cod liver fish had high amount of vitamin D. You might want to do a comparison of how much vitamin D and A they used to have in the past compared to now. We have a serious widespread vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin A deficiency? Not so much... As far as I can tell. Been into nutrition since 1990s. Nothing is ever settled, that's for sure and federal guideline sucks badly. They are living in the stone age...

Re: Vitamin A Conspiracy???
i came across something i think on GLP can help me with.
i even googled "vitamin a conspiracy" but all i could find was the vitamin d and the vitamin c conspiracy.

my darlings, let me bring you VITAMIN A DOOM.
you know you have been waiting.

so here is a place google wants you to go right away if you google vitamin a.

[link to www.healthaliciousness.com]

it states that the foods highest in vitamin a are:

1. liver 2 . paprika 3. sweet potatoes 4. carrots 5. darly leafy green (kale) 6. butternut squash 7. parsley 8. dark colourful lettuce (not the kind you get on your burger) 9. dried apricots 10. cantaloupe

so none of these foods are strange to us. but how much does the AVERAGE american consume any of these foods on any sort of regular basis (remember back in the 60s/70s and even into the 80s somewhat you'd get a dash of paprika and a sprig of parsley with each meal? the paprika never had a taste and seemed only decorate, as well as the parsley. who eats that really? i mean a regular significant amount of fresh parsley? the AVERAGE american i am speaking of)

ok, so then HERE is a comment:

"Vitamin A Mislabled

I find consistently that "experts" wrongly claim vitamin A to be be present in fruits and vegetables. This is scientifically wrong, and technically wrong. What fruits and vegetables have are "carotenes" which are previtamin A. That means, it doesn't turn into vitamin A (retinol) until it is activated by enzymes in the digestive system, and also must be accompanied by adequate fats for this to occur, (butter on carrots for example) If a person has an impairment of this sort in the digestive system (IBS, surgery in the past or other various imperfections that prevent this from happening,) all bets are off. That person is not going to turn their beta carotene into vitamin A and they are at risk for becoming deficient. This site as well as most other news sources are in constant violation of this principle, and I say shame. The only true source of vitamin A are animal, cod liver oil, and liver sources are the highest, also eggs. Used to be milk did but since cows aren't allowed out on fresh green grass anymore (confined indoors) they are also deficient and their milk cannot be considered a rich source as it once was."

interesting right? think about what foods they are ruining.
1. milk. you cannot get "real milk" anymore. they put sting operations around anyone even trying to sell it. even the amish. it's crazy. STING operations about MILK. THINK about it. does that make ANY sense?? no, it really doesn't. it does not seem rational at all.

that is because they KNOW "real milk" is one of "god's great gifts" period. and they have gone out of their way to deprive us of it (they do not call something a land of milk and honey if it is heaven for no reason)

everyone thinks milk is for calcium. WRONG. go look it up.
amino acids for one. i won't delve further there. you can google that.

2. eggs. they says that eggs are worse than CIGARETTES. can you believe that? because i surely can't. google that. eggs worse than cigarettes. crazy.

3. who takes cod liver oil except for a bunch of people who go to whole foods? that is it. period.
and maybe the amish.

so....you see here...why is any of this important you ask?

let me tell you. vitamin A (on their site):

"Vitamin A is an essential vitamin required for vision, gene transcription, boosting immune function, and great skin"

pretty huge stuff.

plus:

"People with Long Term Problems Absorbing Fat - Problems absorbing fat in the long term can lead to diarrhea and vitamin A deficiency. This includes people with:
Celiac disease - Gluten Intolerance
Crohn's disease - Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Pancreatic disorders - The pancreas releases enzymes for proper digestion of fats"

ok what have we seen a huge increase of? GLUTEN INTOLERANCE.

what IF...gluten intolerance is not caused by "the wheat is different now and has been genetically altered" but simply was the fact that the AVERAGE american is becoming INCREASING deficient in vitamin A?

also at the bottom of the page:
"Warnings

Liver and whole milk are high cholesterol foods which should be eaten in moderate amounts and avoided by people at risk of heart disease or stroke."

so who is going to eat liver or milk after that endorsement?

(unless you just hate liver. i do. i hate liver. but i love liverwurst. go figure.)

so....

long story not short.

if you google "vitamin A conspiracy"

nothing.
there is nothing.

this could be because

1. there is no vitamin A conspiracy

or

2. there is a HUGE vitamin A conspiracy going on.

so which one is it?

i'll let my friends here at GLP hash this out in only the that GLP can.

i trust you to solve this dilemma

Vitamin A Saga...
"The discovery of vitamin A and the history of its application in the field of human nutrition is a story of bravery and brilliance, one that represents a marriage of the best of scientific inquiry with worldwide cultural traditions; and the suborning of that knowledge to the dictates of the food industry provides a sad lesson in the use of power and influence to obfuscate the truth.
A key player in this fascinating story is Weston A. Price, who discovered that the diets of healthy traditional peoples contained at least ten times as much vitamin A as the American diet of his day. His work revealed that vitamin A is one of several fat-soluble activators present only in animal fats and necessary for the assimilation of minerals in the diet. He noted that the foods held sacred by the peoples he studied, such as spring butter, fish eggs and shark liver, were exceptionally rich in vitamin A."

"For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another." -- Galatians 5:14-26

Re: Vitamin A Conspiracy???
A long time ago, in the earlier days of supplementing with vitamins, there was concern about Vitamin A ingestion. Over and over was repeated the dangers of eating too many foods with high amounts of Vitamin A. Inevitably they would mention the danger of eating polar bear liver, as if that was something an average human being would eat.

Today, a lot of people eat crap. The foods are so lacking in nutritions, and only by fortifying them with vitamins are they they healthier. So basically you're eating things like corn syrup and wood cellulose that then have vitamins added. It's absurd and disgusting. Eat natural food grown in your garden.

Yes, taking too much vitamin A will make you ill. However vitamin A deficiency is a problem in 3rd world nations.
[link to www.childinfo.org]
"While most people know that vitamin A deficiency (VAD) can lead to blindness – it is in fact the leading cause of preventable childhood blindness – many are unaware that even before blindness occurs, vitamin A-deficient children face a 23 per cent greater risk of dying from ailments such as measles, diarrhoea or malaria. Although many countries have not been able to assess the true level of deficiency because of technical and financial constraints, the World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that, vitamin A deficiency still remains a significant public health problem at the global level. An estimated 33 per cent (190 million) of preschool-age children and 15 per cent (19 million) pregnant women do not have enough vitamin A in their daily diet, and can be classified as vitamin A deficient. Furthermore, another 5.2 million preschool-age suffer from clinical VAD. The highest prevalence and numbers are found among countries of sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia where more than 40 per cent of preschool-age children are estimated to be vitamin A deficient. Recent WHO estimates indicate that vitamin A deficiency is a clinical problem in 45 countries, and a sub-clinical problem in 122 countries. The map below illustrates the global prevalence of vitamin A deficiency. More information on the prevalence of vitamin A deficiency is available from the World Health Organization's Micronutrient Deficiency Information System. "

It's not an issue in the USA. Check the map at the link to see how your country fares in this area.

On the other hand, vitamin supplementation in other areas, and low minerals are real issue of much higher concern.

Eat a balance diet, stop eating prepackaged food; and a vitamin particularly for children and adults under stress should be sufficient for most people in Western countries.

Actually India is one of the places where vitamin A def. is a problem in children. Just because people eat at home, doesn't mean they get adequate nutrition. However most of the young people with this issue are likely homeless, a major issue in India.

As opposed to what the AC wrote it's a very serious issue in India.

"OBJECTIVES--To investigate the importance of vitamin A deficiency as a cause of childhood blindness and severe visual impairment (SVI) in India. DESIGN AND SETTING--Cross sectional survey of children with visual acuity less than 6/60 in the better eye (SVI/blindness), attending 22 schools for the blind in nine states of India. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE--Proportion of children with blindness or SVI from corneal scarring attributable to vitamin A deficiency. RESULTS--245 of 1318 (18.6%) of children had SVI/blindness attributable to vitamin A deficiency. The proportion of SVI/blindness due to vitamin A deficiency ranged from 7.5% (7/93) in Kerala to 26.7% (27/101) in Madhya Pradesh. In Tamil Nadu, 7.5% (9/120) of children in the capital city blind school had SVI/blindness due to vitamin A deficiency, compared with 30.4% (51/168) in a blind school in a rural area of the same state. CONCLUSION--Overall, vitamin A deficiency is the single most important cause of childhood blindness and SVI in India. There are marked variations by state and also between urban and rural locations. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I've started looking at the sources for statements about vitamins and nutrition and when it comes from the medical industry, I discount it by about half or more.

For the most part the effects of too much of any vitamin doesn't even come close to the adverse effects of prescribed amounts of any of their pharmaceutical drugs.

If you take a lot of vitamins and supplements like I do, it's good to take a break from them pretty often, I'm sure most people do anyway out of distraction or laziness.

Use common sense and read the labels of the products you take and do as much research and experimentation as you can.

You have to think for yourself these days. They try to make it seem like it's dangerous to think for yourself, that you should let the "experts" do your thinking for you.

Really I think these days it is more dangerous to let other people do your thinking for you, no matter what white coat they are wearing or how many degrees and titles they have.

At this point you really have to ask yourself if anyone besides you has your own best interests at heart?

I hope you are better. Cancer is such a difficult illness, for the medicines the oncologists wish to give you, they stop mitosis of cells, which is cellular division. As such, those medicines result in stomach bleeding, the death of skin, the halting of normal healthy maintenance. It's a horrible cruelty.

Juicing is a wonderful way to load up the body with very very beneficial phytochemicals. ALL CANCER PATIENTS could benefit from juicing. Because jucing gives you a whopping dose versus trying to eat all of that while suffering from stomach pain, then it's a vital way to get better.

Honestly marijuana oil is too, for not only does it increase hunger, but also seems to destroy cancer. In 20 years, it's highly likely that we'll be using it to treat cancer and wonder why people were so stupid about marijuana.

and I've slowly been alleviating symptoms on diet and supplements alone. One of my biggest issues is my GI, my stomach is shot to shit.

I personally believe my stomach has been destroyed by chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, & additives that are found in most of our food today.

I switched to organic, started taking probiotics...among lots of other things, and slowly I'm pulling myself out of these horrid symptoms.

Vitamin A is something I do not take because my doctor told me it can be "dangerous" even in low levels.

I also suffer from gluten sensitivity.

I'm going to look into vitamin A for myself now. It could be a huge missing piece.

On my first try of eatting raw eggs I got salmonella poisoning, it sucked, big time. One of those feelings you wish would just go away but it doesn't until its out of your system.

Its real.

well the egg/cholesterol/heart things been hashed over here quite a bit. Most people are awake to the fact googies are good not bad now

Almost got into an argument today with a friend over eggs. He had just discovered that I drink whole eggs. Raw. Daily.

Salmonella! Listeria! Those were his cries. I calmly told him that I had been drinking raw eggs since the age of six and a good thing at that, because, wouldn't you know it, as it turns out, cholesterol is not only good for you, but it is essential. It builds cells. Cells build you. The end.

I don't remember vitamin D, I think I was told to go outside without sunglasses for 20 minutes a day for that. That was before chemtrails though, I think they are causing the need for vitamin D.

I drank raw eggs for the longest time. Then for a while I got this sick feeling everyday, almost like flu like symptoms. I ended up cutting out the vitamins I took daily, and was still getting that strange feeling. Once I cut raw eggs out of my diet I felt fine. Not sure what it was, but I have not started raw eggs for a few months now. Not sure if they were just bad eggs, or what, maybe a mixture of the eggs and vitamins I was taking. Who knows.

There is some idea that chickens are full of cancer and so are the eggs.

No one knows this but I don't eat killer chicken anymore and I don't eat eggs often.

Vitamin A solution-Spirulina.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33373657

spirulina is good, another good source is Red Palm Oil, been using this lately. Teaspoon a day and on my face. Great to cook with to.hf
 Quoting: Shustah

Again, plant sources only have carotenes which is NOT Vitamin A but compounds that can be converted into it by the body. The problem is that most people can't convert enough of it so they end up deficient in Vitamin A no matter how many carotenes they eat.

I strictly eat grassfed beef and purchase grassfed butter and grassfed milk as a rule. My friends and family belittle me when I mention it.

Yes it is much more expensive, but since I believe "you are what you eat" then I am worth it.

Why would you ever settle for the cheapest, lower quality stuff when your body breaks it down and it literally becomes you? I guess if you really love yourself, you get the best. And if you do not love yourself, you eat the food-flavored-poison such as soda, HFCS, fast food, packaged food, etc.

I consume 2/3 stick of grassfed, unsalted butter per day, and I have for over one year now.

Never been stronger, healthier, and while I have always had excellent blood pressure and cholesterol levels, they have maintained excellent status.

I put the grassfed, unsalted butter in my coffee each morning.

Bulletproof coffee, it is called. coffeecup

Over consumption of high vitamin A from fruits and vegetables can lead to a slight yellow discoloration of the skin known as Carotenodermia.
This condition only causes a slight change in skin color and is considered harmless. Smiley

Vitamin A is also good for infertility.

Of course everyone needs plant derived trace minerals - VERY IMPORTANT.

BTW, you know if you're taking too much Vitamin A because it'll give you a headache!

That's interesting and unusual Sonic Dreamer, for your practice is a lot like Tibetan butter tea. In that case it's tea leaves and yak butter.

It's a practice going back to the 13th century.

no over consumtion of beta ceratene causes that. not vitamin a. the thing is, in this culture we have made "beta ceratene" and "vitamin a" interchangable when they are not at all really.
