War hero arrested in NY state and charged with 5 felonies for possesion of 30 round magazines | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 33389306 United States 01/31/2013 01:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "Magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds and manufactured before 1994, which are currently legal, would have to be turned over to authorities or sold out of state within one year. If a magazine has a capacity between eight and 10, it would have to be retrofitted to only hold seven rounds." Quoting: ifSHTF So how legit is this story? I checked and confirmed. Unless 30-round mags were already illegal in New York, he had every right to still have them until the year is up, right? Sounds as if they are only giving time to mags manufactured prior to 1994...when the Clintoon "Gun Ban" went into effect... Really doesn't matter though...the "Law" that Governor Cornhole signed into law will more likely than not be challanged and found to be unconstitutional...possible that this mans case will become that challange case...hopefully after that happens he will sue the snot out of everything and everyone. Best I can figure, the INTENT of this crazy NY law was to end up at SCOTUS. The libs are hooping for a broad opinion that will outline the limits of the 2nd Amendment. Then they'll write a Federal law that goes up just to those limits, that's as restrictive as possible while having the explicit recent approval of SCOTUS. I hope any court, including SCOTUS, will write a narrow opinion saying simply that these mags were grandfathered or reasonably believed to be grandfathered, end of story. Don't give the Feds an outline of how to write their law. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6484430 Have you actually seen the people of Belize? The west coast of central america is run by drug gangs. Violent drug gangs with no limits and no fears. Why do you think a multimillionaire like MacCaffee was so gun and security crazy? You may not be so happy to be there on your own, alone with no connections and no friends and 2000 american dollars just begging to be made into installment payments on ransom or protection from the local gangs I think you've gone overboard with that post. I live on the west coast of Central America in a large city where the violent crime rate is very low. It's much safer to live here than in a city in the USA. In fact, the poster would do well to consider Panama over Belize. The infrastructure here is much better. We have a state of the art John Hopkins Hospital here, an international airport, large fancy malls, a multitude of nice restaurants, bars, and clubs, wine festivals, casinos, a major venue concert hall that attracts bands like Metallica, a large American expat community, a private banking sector that rivals Switzerland's (admittedly not as private as before, though if you have Panamanian residency, you're protected), and you could still live well on $2000 a month (probably not as well as in Belize, though it depends on your definition of living well). To my understanding, it's just been made much easier and cheaper for Americans (and Europeans) to get residency here. I think if you're bringing in $2000 a month (and this is certainly true if it's a pension), you'd qualify. Check with an immigration attorney to be sure. Also, to the poster who is considering moving to Central America, you must beat that drug charge, or you aren't going anywhere. You will be required to prove that you are not a felon before any country will allow you to immigrate there. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33332377 Choppedlow permalink January 31, 2013 9:27 AM EST Find the name of the prosecutor who is pushing this and post it online for everyone to see. These people who go after vets like this and not the rich media liberals, for something as stupid as a magazine, need their names and addresses brought out into the light. [link to gunssavelives.net] If they can publicize the names of law abiding gun owners, we can publicize the names of the people who are trying to turn us all into criminals. let's not elevate any such thing to near a level that could be viewed as stalking... That's not stalking. That's good journalism! NY paper publishes names of concealed gun permit holders [link to www.kgw.com] If he's not doing anything wrong, what does he have to hide? What the paper did was wrong...if someone tried the same thing here on innocent law abiding people?....they'd be banned so deep someone would have to pump to air down to them... If a similar thing happens to whatever journalists?...we can surely discuss that...but no one is going be searching any scumbag fake news assholes personal info down and using GLP as a vehicle to publish that sort of thing. I understand that people are pissed off...I am too...but we aren't going to become part of the problem and we do not point to some other scumbags piss poor actions to justify more of the same. No, it works, and it is fair. The names of the top people at the Journal-News were published. And just like magic, the Journal-News took down the map of gun owners. Sure much damage had been done, but it made them back off. They made the excuse that the job was done with the passage of the NY gun law, but that doesn't really make sense. Now both the addresses of the gun owners, and the addresses of the J-N people, are permanently available. That's somewhat fair. |

Quoting: ^TrInItY^ What are people who had 30 round mags supposed to do with them? This is ridiculous... According to a comment I heard in the Assembly debate, they can sell them out of state. Someone asked if this wasn't gunwalking, but I don't think there was any response to it. The whole thing was jammed through without time for open discussion, even the normal 3 day comment period was waived at the instigation of the Governor and the approval of the legislature. The MSM press didn't even say much or anything that I recall about this being under discussion, though alternative media talked about it. Them bam! it was done. It's Cuomo's typical style. He didn't tell anyone (except the gays) that he was working on gay marriage, until that was final, either. |
