If it was a 30 round mag that was not pre-94 ("pre-ban"), I think it was not legal before the new NY law either. So there would be no grandfathering, no time to sell out of state.
I don't know what burden of proof there is about whether a mag is pre-94 or not.

So, if they tell you to "prove it's pre-ban", I think most people cannot, unless maybe they still have receipts for those dating back to that time that have not faded by now. And they know this.
